Air Testing Cibola & Tejon

Sven

Well-known member
I did some wonderful air testing with both the Cibola and Tejon over a period of 2 1/2 hours yesterday. I always make a air test log with detectors that I buy. Would like to get out and do some actual detecting. It's been too hot, rainy and most of the ground is hard like a rock.........

Came up with some interesting info. Granted air testing is not actual ground detecting and may be irrelevant but, gives me some type of performance log. Helpful if some where down the line, you think your detector is not performing like it used to. A redo of the air test can be used to verify if something is in need of fixing. Found at a certain setting the Cibola actually goes deeper in Disc. mode than the Tejon during the air test. I will have to try some actual ground testing and see what happens.

Leads me to believe if the ground conditions are right, the Cibola can hunt in the maxed out mode and detect at the depths the Tejon can.

I can see why there was all this hoopla a few years back-- folks stating the Cibola and V's are just as deep as the Tejon, etc.
I think the key is ideal ground conditions and able to use the Cibola in maxed out settings.

The air tests have been converted to pdf. files that include pictures of the settings.
The air tests may not mean much in actual ground detecting but, interesting to look at.

When my Cortes comes in will do the same air test.

If you couldn't tell by the pictures in the pdf. file, the stock coil was used on both the Cibola and Tejon.

Very interesting Sven. One Question, were these air tests done indoors or outside away from any kind of electrical interference ?

good job on the pdf 's ,I see ya max'd the sens out on the Cibola to get the best reach , but kept the Tejon muzel'd at 10 ?

I can adjust the Tejon about half way into the max zone before it starts to chatter and it appears to go about 1- 1 1/2" depending on the coin size. Guess I forgot to do that test, the heat was getting to me and just wanted to finish, go where it was cool and get something to drink...LOL

Since I just got the Tejon, don't have any real detecting time on it. I really don't care for this Georgia heat and humidity, hard ground and grass you need a saw, to cut thru the roots. So when we get some decent weekend day, it's going out for a walk. At least I can detect all winter down here.

Did manage to brave the heat last night and find a school yard that was shaded. I lasted about 1 1/2 hours before I was soaked. Used the Cibola. Found a small handful of change and a small silver locket. Wouldn't mind going back in the fall time after a a soaking rain.
I did use it with the sens. maxed out, otherwise it wouldn't get the dimes 4" deep in the ground. After about 45 minutes, I could start to tell the difference between a dime, nickel and quarter signal. Easy detector to learn.

Hey Sven, the Cibola is a good machine I think you'll like it.

I can usually run the sensitivity at 10 or higher when the ground isn't too trashy and that really does make a depth difference for me.
