Air Test

Hi Guys,
Here is an air test that I did in my backyard. I used an XS1, 90% battery charge (rechargeable), 7.5" Minelab Coil, and clean ground.
The measurements represent inches from the top of the coin, to the very bottom of the coil. The top of the 90 deg coin was even with the ground's surface. The flat coin was laying on top of the ground. The sounds I heard would make me dig.
SEN Flat Quarter 90 Deg. Quarter Flat Dime
5 3.6" 1.8" 3.1"
10 5.1" 2.6" 4.1"
16 6.1" 3.6" 6.1"
20 7.6" 4.3" 7.1"
24 8.1" 5.6" 8.1"
27 10.1" 6.1" 8.6"
In the field I have never seen a perfectly vertical coin. I did collect a standing liberty 1917S that was oriented at about 70 degrees at a depth of 6.5" with SEN=27 and it was super loud and clear! So I think coins that are not oriented 90 degrees probably will have a heck of a lot stronger signal than if they were at 90 deg.

but as the signal stops being repeatable, sweep the coil very quickly back and forth with little left to right motion right over the top of the coin(the monelab wiggle).. you should get a clearer signal for a couple more inches.. If I hear a blip of a high tone thats quiet while hunting I do that and the signal becomes much more pronounced on the deeper targets

Hey Jim,
Yea, I know what you mean. This test was for normal swing speed. One guy said that if you make little quick sweeps within main sweeps that you can get better signal response throughout your main sweeps. I tend to do this in trashy areas, but not in clean areas. It may be beneficial in clean areas too.

Thanks Mike,
I like your 90 degrees as a measure of a worst case angle scenario.
Interesting how two of your flat quarter readings varied from the earlier test by nearly an inch on sen settings
Sen 16 was 7 now 6.1
Sen 24 was 9 now 8.1
Any idea why?
Just day to day variation or just geting better with the ruler ?
Thanks again for running these tests for us !
