Air Test<> Vaquero, Euro Sabre and Compadre<> Small Gold Chain

tabdog

New member
Yaw got me wondering about how the Vaquero, Compadre and
Euro Sabre would compare in an air test with a small gold chain.

I got two pieces for the test. I know that both test as14k gold.

One has a very small loop on the end and the larger one does
not have a catch or loop.

The larger one weighs 1.2 grams.

The smaller one weighs 0.2 grams

I set the V and the Euro at center on the GB. 10 on sensitivity.
Minimum on disc. The Compadre was set at minimum on Disc.

The V was the winner in the disc mode.

The V would respond to my satisfaction at a little over 3

well tabdog, this morning i hunted in a tot's lot with my compadre and found many things.one thing i found did surprise me,was a small peice of beaded chain about three inchs long, you know the type of chain used in banks to slow down the thieves from pinching the ball point pens.no monetary value, down about four inchs in the sand . the sand wasn't hard packed.this compadre holds great promice to me . i'm glad you talked me into buying one.hh see ya blowfly

hey thanks for the free test , looks like the V is a good unit as i suspected but my finaces have thus rejected compadre must do im looking for the big gold anyway >and you?

I go for small gold.

The big stuff is less abundant.

The most of the weight in my gold finds come from small gold pieces.

The bigger ones are many times more exciting to find, but don't come
along very often.

That's why in some spots, I'll dig any small object that will give even 10%
of a response, in any direction.

Happy Hunting,

Tabdog

Did you test the chains bunched or in a line, straightened? That usually makes all the difference.
If a small gold chain falls to ground bunched, the Tesoros will normally respond with a broken, choppy sound. If in a line or laid out straight, they usually dont respond at all.

I recall finding a large herringbone link chain once. It was in the short grass and I eyeballed it - since my Tesoro SSII didnt respond to it at all. And yep you guessed it, the sucker was lying stretched out. The clasp had broken.
It was a largish mans chain, about 3/16 wide. My ex-wife got hold of it, IIRC, and that was the end of that.

Hay David,

You are right as rain.

The way a chain is laying has a lot to do with

the signal from your machine.

A picture is worth a thousand words and saves

me from trying to explain how I was holding the

chains.

The MD was stationary and I was waving the

chains in front of the coil.

That takes away ground effect.

Here is how the chains were held.

Tabdog, what size coils on the Vaquero and Euro ? The Compadre was 5.75 inches..Am assuming a smaller coil gives a much better hit on chains A golden UMax is going to visit tomorrow, with a four inch coil, and I don't have a chain to do comparisons with/..! Fisher 1266 X..., 3Tesoros,,Vaquero, Silver UMax, Gold UMax..Coils for the Tesoros will be, Vaquero, stock and 3 by 18 wide sweep...Silver and Gold UMax 3 by 18 wide sweep, stock coils, and 4 inch sniper coil..Going hunting, and if time permits, will do some coil / target comparisons. One thing I intend to try is getting the old T 20 up and running..Frequencies are much higher, and it will hit small gold items easily ..WAS an excellent tot lot toy in its day..Might even take it out again.Maybe at 46, it will be in a second childhood......Cordially NAD

Not trying to hijack the thread but wanted you all to know that yesterday I found my first ever gold small link necklace. I didn't measure it but I would say it is a mans size. It wasn't broke and the clasp was closed, it was in circle like if was around your neck. It was about 3 inches deep in the woodchips. I was using my new to me Tesoro Toltec II. Sorry to cut in on this post but I think our friend Tabdog won't mind. Thanks and thanks for your post of the comparison on the different detectors Tabdog! Steve.

No I don't mind Steve.

The more the maryier.

Congrats on the chain.

I been pretty lucky at

finding um.

I'm getting more confidence

in the Vaquero.

It is a good machine, and

it does most anything, in

my area anyway.

Happy Huntin,

Tabdog
