Air test...Tiny Tec vs Bounty Hunter................:cam:

My Tiny Tec came in today and it's not as tiny as I thought it might be.

It came with three uncirculated golden colored US mint $1 coins. They are the presidential series coins.

I air tested the Tiny Tec and the Bounty Hunter.

The Tiny Tech wins at detecting distance. Bounty Hunter about 1/2" on a penny and Tiny Tec over 1" on a penny.

Price. Tiny Tec Is cheaper.

Sensitivity, Tiny Tec wins hands down. Tiny Tec can detect these small objects.

One is a small piece on 14K gold I cut off some broken jewelry I found.

Two is a very small piece of aluminum foil that is not doubled over. Single thickness and about 1/8" wide.

Three is a just a small round piece of fake jewelry.

The Tiny Tec wins all three. The only one the Bounty Hunter would pick up at all was the small round piece of fake jewelry and it had to be pressed to the tip to get a week response. That would not happen in the field.

The Tiny Tec responded to all three.

Conclusion. I really like the Tiny Tec much more than the Bounty Hunter.

The Tiny Tec has a sound I can hear better.

Tiny Tec has a red light when it gets a response. Bounty Hunter has no light.

Tiny Tec has another light to illuminate the target. Not BH.

The Tiny Tec doesn't vibrate.

But I could never feel the vibration of the Bounty Hunter. So BH can't even win there.

I like My Tiny Tec and hope I don't have to use the 25 month warranty which Bounty Hunter doesn't have either.

HH,

same here i think i will buy another before they sell out of those. bang for buck i like tiny tec

Hi Kdc,

I checked the Tiny Tec detection distance a little closer and this is what I came up with.

A modern penny: 1"

$1 included coin: 1 1/4"

8" metal pliers 2 1/2"

Tiny Tec detects at about the same distance off the end of the tip as it does off the side of the tip.

Bounty Hunter detects better off the side of the tip than off the the end of the tip. It has to touch a small object off the end of the tip to get a response. That makes it hard to find some stuff at the bottom of the hole.

Tiny Tec can be set to automatic shut off when the tip is pointed up. That way you don't have to set the sensitivity when you use it. That feature can be turned off to detect strait up or if you don't want to use it.

Tiny Tec is not tiny. It's too big to put in your pants pocket and it's just over a foot long. Odd shape too.

Tiny Tec is not a Sturdy Tec. The housing is flimsy plastic. The instructions say it will withstand a 25 pound force pushing the tip into the ground. But that force would rip the housing off the rod. The 25 pound force must be at the knob on the end of the rod.

Bounty Hunter is not very sturdy either. And the battery keeps falling out.

Here are some more photos.

HH,

Do you thank the size will be a problem in the field? I am looking
for a good one myself and have never had one before so I'm not
real sure what would be best for me.

I think that I'm going to have to figure out a way to carry it. But that is OK. I'll figure out something..

I like the way it works so the inconvenience is worth it.

I don't want it to detect too deep or it will defeat the purpose.

I'm going to have to be careful with it because its not very sturdy looking.

If you can put out more bucks there are more durable pin pointers out there.

Keep in mind I haven't used it in the field yet. But I'm impressed with the way it works in my testing.

I'm glad I bought mine. I'm tempted to do like Kdc and just order another one because this a limited offer and this model is probably being discontinued. If one went out I would have a back up while the other is in for repairs.

It's just a matter of your priorities,

I use a Tiny Tec also. I bought the leather holder for it and haven't regretted it. The neat thing is that you can switch it to not come on while in the verticle position and that is how I place it in the holder. Saves the battery and is convenient to grasp as well. I haven't used my 120mm Whites since.

Hi Tabdog, it is odd shaped and does look like something somebody made in their garage, but it seems to work nice. i have a small leather tool pouch that i use and it will fit in there along with my other detecting tools. the pressure is from the cap to the tip straight down, not against the housing at all. i also have a treasure mate which i don't use, don't like it. it is a motion type didn't know that when i bought it, my bad didn't do my homework. i also just bought a vibra probe. built sturdy, but is not as sensitive as the tinytec, but it is completely water proof and has no switches. given the ones i have so far, i believe i like the tinytec about the best. if I'm going to the beach I'll take the vibra probe.

I stopped in a OSH - Orchard Supply place and they had a very good selection of tool pouches, belts, knee-pads, gloves.
I was there getting items for home repairs but I'll be going back to really take a good look at all the stuff that can apply to detecting.

They even had portable pop-up safety cones, hard hats, safety vests, caution tape - mark off your detecting area for yourself :poke:

Thanks Guys,

I'm fixen to go give mine a little work-out.

It's kind a cold here so it may not last long, but here I go,

That gives me an idea:blink:

I was a surveyor for the sewer department.

If I dress in my old sewer department clothes nobody will bother me while I'm detecting.

They'll think they might get some sewer on them.

I'll be able to go any where:razz:

HH,

Now if you can just figure how to get that Arky barky attached to the end !!! LOL

You said one of your pointers was motion based. Did you whip it over a target to see how deep it would go? I can get up to five inches with my Sun Ray.

Bill

Hi Bill,

I don't know. I can't find where I said it was motion based. It's not. Just a regular old pin pointer like most of them but it is very sensative.

Sun Rays are nice but they cost as much as by best metal detector. They're 4 times as much as my Killer Bs and 7 times what I paid for my Tiny Tec.

Sun Ray cost about as much as I spent at the grocery store last week.

We sure spend a lot of money on food and gas now days. Makes other things sound cheep in comparison.

Oh well,

Yeah I thought in one of your posts you mentioned that it was motion based. If it had of been you could get much more depth by whipping it over the target ( motion detector works the same ). I field tested a probe for Sun Ray and they claim three inches depth for them but if you whip them over the target you can get five inches. I use it to detect coins close to metal of any kind and in nests of pulltabs.
