Air test on my cibola

dirt lizard

Member
I did a air test with a 14 k ring i had to see the depth on where i would find any gold in the ground. But the funny thing was when i went from nickle setting past pulltab setting I lost 2 inches has anyone else had this happen?

Generally the more you increase the discrimination, you will lose depth.

Ditto...
I lot of rings come in around nickle range.. it's good to know, by your test, that you will pick up rings deeper when disc set lower..

If you're really serious about gold rings etc., forget using discrimination and dig everything no matter how tedious it gets.

I run mine just above iron. and can swear by 18inch depth in sandy beaches on quarters. Its a depth monster. and thats with the sens. up to 3/4 full. on 14.5 freq. :super:

18 inches on quarters? Mine is only getting 8 inches on air tests with 3:00 thresh and 10 sens and 11-12 super tuned. Is mine sick?

Sven is right in mentioning the fact that, as you raise the disc level, you will loose some depth. Air testing is pretty good for seeing where a target disc

Ok I'm really new to the cibola but just testing mine in the garage it's around 8 ish with threshold at 3:00 and sense at 10, just above iron. If I moved thresh up all the way it's goes to around 10"-11" making tiny blips.

Also understand I'm in the garage with the car and its chattering if in turn sens up past 11. I think your ok, seems right to me. Remember most sand is damp and that really seems to help depth allot. Mine is a week old.
I'm testesting a quarter.

Ps. I tried a 14k ring and see the same thing you are saying. But my ring vanished when I went abouve nickel. Normal too. What we have learned today is if you want to find gold rings the lower disc the better, but I still will disc out just iron.

Also the markings on the cibola sticker on the machine are not really accurate, they are a crude guide. If you grab your nickel you will see where it discs out, also do a smaller gold ring, make sure your not discing it out. I was over the tab ,past the nickel on Tuesday and dug a nickel next to an rusted nail...weird huh.
