Ain't no Explorer user...

So I can't begin to imagine what all this fuss is about settings!
Heck, I would just set the sensitivity as high as I could tolerate for any given site. IMO, the "analyzing" going on in any of the new machines is so damn fast that the only limit to hearing good stuff is your own personal ability to "differentiate"... not the circuits ability to "differntiate". Crank er up and let your senses adjust to what I call the white noise from erratic signals, pretty soon it doesn't even register but any thing "different" sounding brings instant attention.
I just read Mike Moutrays settings tips, what he uses and why makes TOTAL SENSE TO ME!

then you could post your setting tips.

Perhaps they are beating a dead horse to death, seems like diferences of opinion on manual or auto sensitivity is the big debate..Any experienced user in his area will sure have his personal settings which work for him, but its nice to read different opinions..Nice part of an explorer is to have the ability to make these changes and we all know different states, areas can differ greatly...Never can know too much in my opinion..

but I do agree with your principle to a point. I have slowly adjusted over time to run high sens., at low disc, which is basically the same as almost any other unit. Where some get into trouble, like I did, was the extra pop and DD coil with the Explorer had me digging empty holes everywhere. It wasn't until I began to "walk" did I start actually have success. Now I can run like a bastad.

Hey, I got me one of those cheap wonder machines ML makes. I wonder what it will put out of my pounded spots next!

I'd like to be able to start in manual at sens. 32, do the Noise Cancel and then hit Auto to quiet 'er down. Problem is, you don't know what she's runnin' at any given time. So, I do it manually. Some spots I can run 27-28. Others I can't get over 22 without lots of noise. One spot I can't get rid of the noise no matter what I do.
It be nice if the machine told you what the (average?) sens. is while runnin' in Auto...

Tom,
It's like any machine with different soil and personal preferences we all seem to come up with some setting that work for us and some that don't. I find that my hunting buddy can't run his Explorer too hot bacause he seems to chase those chirps and pops and basically gets disgusted. I do think it takes a good ear to use the Explorer and enough patience to take the time to understand the Explorer. HH!

It appears that many hold that same view that you cannot trust semi-auto to give top performance "all the time".
Tom

I know the feeling. Sometimes you just click with a machine right away and sometimes it take a "revelation" before things start to make sense.
HH, Tom

I totally agree... we've all have machines we just don't click with for whatever reason. I've had them as you know... Sometimes it not the machine... Glad to see you over in this neck of the woods.
