I knew that minelab could have hardware issues but I thought "my excalibur is gonna be fine".. right..
so I received it yesterday, charged the battery for 16 hours (as stated in the manual), today I plug it in, turn it on and nothing happens other than a mild click in the headphones :) so I guess the problem could be anything, just anything... battery? charger ? something else ?

let me guess, as a new sucker who just paid $1300 I will not be able to return it to the shop but would need to send it for "repairs" and would get it back in two months ? is that right ?

and Im sure I did it all correctly, the sound volume is on max, the cables are connected as they should be etc...

the battery wire was the 1sr thing that went bad on my excal 2 then it was the headphones wire (it's being worked on now )when i called them and told them that there are a lot of people with the same problem they said that they know nothing about it but they said that my xcal was still under warranty and they will fix it no charge i hip mount my xcal in front of me i think i will put it on the shaft from now on

That sucks. But if you just ordered it I would contact the dealer. I believe Minelab has a policy that if it shows up dead they will replace it in short order (as opposed to having to wait for a repair).

I cant find the info right now, but know any Minelab dead on arrival or dies the first week minelab will replace it with a new one and send it right out to you. I can find the info at this computer, but know I got a service bulletin on it.

If your battery charged for 16hrs it should read close to 14 volts. If not your charger is bad. If you bought the machine new call 1-877-767-6522 and ask for Mary she is very helpfull and won't hesitate to hook you up with a Technition. If you bought it used call them anyway. Good luck.

the battery reads at 10.2 volts. I brought it to a friend who tested the charger and the battery, the charger is fine, the battery is not fully loaded because the switch between the charger and the battery was dead, one of the cables was loose inside, so he fixed it for me, I put it back to charge now. Wonder if it helps..

Sorry to hear about your bad luck with the Excal Mracquis.
. To pay $1300 for a product and receive it needing repair is uncalled for. If Minelab is having problems with their factory relocation, it's time they stop production until they get their quality control up to snuff. I bought a Minelab Sovereign GT last year, got it out of the box, put batteries in the battery pack and inserted it the machine. Turned it on, nothing!! When I put the pack in, it had pushed an improperly assembled contact into the machine. Not wanting to go through the "Minelab nightmare" repair service and wait months, I took the case apart and repaired it myself. The machine has worked fine since, but I don't feel we should have to repair or return a new product right out of the box.. If the number of complaints I hear on this forum is any indication of the percentage of defects in Minelab products, it would tell me Minelab is putting out junk. I like the way the GT operates and will continue to use it until it dies, but it disgusts me when I hear the disappointment of somebody getting a lemon after spending $1300. A buyer should not have to buy an after market charger because the Minelab charger in inadequate. There's no need for it. Minelab should get there act together. JMHO

This is why i bought a used one that the man said was working and he would back it up and refund money if there was a problem.

It is not just the Minelab chargers that are junk-Garrett for the Infinium and Sea Hunter are no prizes either Don't know about the others & could care less. The one I have works

I am sorry to hear you being upset I know you gave them a chance and they blew it let see how long it will take to solve this problem. Well anyway that blows and it will keep me from investing any money in these machines I will wait until the new company that bought them gets it together

actually the problem will be solved quickly, Minelab contacted the shop where I bought the detector and instructed them to replace it. So Im going there tomorrow to get a new one.
they also offered "compensation for lost time and trouble" dunno what its going to be, a tshirt with their logo ? ;)

Sounds like a good out come to me. Good luck with your new Excal, your gonna love it.

I remember the news letter from Minelab saying any detector dead on arrival the dealer was to call in and a new detector would be sent out to the customer, or replaced with a new one out of the dealers stock if he had one. It happened to me on a new Excalibur II I sold as it didn't work right and I didn't have a extra one in stock, so Minelab sent out a new one right to the customer. A few weeks later we got a newsletter saying any new one out of the box that didn't work right were to call so it could be replaced quickly with a one that works excellent.
Good luck with the new one as it should be great.

Here's to hoping that your NEWEST one works better than you NEW one ......... So sorry to hear this pityful news .......Jim

i also took the Malaysian plunge, and believe me it was against my better judgement, i decided to buy a brand new explorer se pro because that would be my last new detector i ever buy, and with all the experience of buying Chinese products that totally fall apart within a few days of purchase, and malaysia is the same as china as far as i am concerned. but i was 100%right when i received the se pro i fully charged the battery and when i put the battery into the detector it came on by itself without me touching the power button, so i contacted my dealer he called minelab they said for my dealer to send it back and they would send me a new one, well 12 days later i received the second new one put brand new batterys in the pack push the power button and nothing i said what the hell took it back home put the recharge pack in it and it came on, then to make things worse on the side's of the control housing it supposed to say Professional which is moulded into the plastic, and this detector had nothing on the side's it looked just like the old se, they say the 3rd time's the charm so i called minelab again and told them this one is also junk they said ship it back and they would ship out #3, they were getting mad by this time but hey i just spent a $1,000 and i want what i paid for, and not some piece of malaysian junk. dont get me wrong they were on top of it the 2nd and 3rd detector they shipped overnite express and i know it cost $95.00 each time. i have had the new one 5 days now and so far so good, keeping my fingers crossed. i will stay with Minelab detectors no matter what
