How old are you & what was the year and make of the VERY FIRST detector you purchased, was given to you or you made yourself?-----Remember that saying, "we've come a long ways baby"!!!! :detecting: ---------Del

Howdy Dell

I'm 57 years old and my wife (can't mention age) and I started out in the spring of 1994. I bought a new, just on the market White's XLT, later that spring I bought the wife a Tesoro Toltec ll. We both had quite a learning experience together. I still hunt a lot but the wife's Toltec ll got too heavy for her, she goes with me once in awhile with the Bandido ll

72 years old...started detecting right after retirement and actually bought a flea market radio shack and found a dime and several pennies and was hooked. My first real detector was bought used Bounty Hunter Big Bud pro(red)(circa 198:geek: and although a good unit just ate 9 volt batteries..20 years later and many detectors used my favorite is a CZ as its deep and user friendly.

66, and my first detector was a generic BFO just like the one in the photo below. It was a kit BFO that had a 6.5 inch coil and would only go maybe three inches deep at most on a quarter, and not much over half that on a dime. I bought it while Christmas shopping the night of December 22, 1969, and sat up all night soldering the components on the board. Got it going just after daylight the next morning, took it outside and the first signal was a Barber dime, barely under the surface of the ground, that had to have been hauled in with the fill dirt when my house was built. I was the only person using a detector here for a few years, so there was no competition and that little detector found massive amounts of coins at ballfields, parks and playgrounds for me Finding over 100 coins in a hunt was common, and also that many or more tabs and bottlecaps since it didn't have any discrimination other than nail size and smaller iron. Detectors have come a long way since then........

I got a Radio Shack model for Christmas one year. I really wanted a nice on it was NOT.

I really got into the hobby hard 2 1/2 years ago. I am 52, Beale.

Guess I better answer my own question.-----I'm 71 yrs. old--Purchased my first detector (a Whites) in 1974 or '75 (can't remember for sure which year, it's terrible to get old).-----I'm in good health though & plan on detecting another 20 years (at least). ---------Del

Age 54 in June; my first detector for a brief period was in 1973, I have no idea what it was.

Then in 1995 I inherited and White's Goldmaster TR 66 with a 6", and some larger coil.
What a bear to tune and keep the threshold on setting.
Found a few things in the next few years; mostly bottle caps:(
Then in 1997 traded it for a White's Eagle Spectrum and been finding the goodies ever since.

Last great find with White's XLT this last spring = 1891-s Seated Liberty quarter

TOO MUCH DIRT, NOT ENUFF TIME!

62 years old and started with a Jetco back in 1973 and almost gave up, but tried a Whites that was non disc back then and fell in love with the hobby. Wife started the next year and she too is hooked

58. I started last year when my girlfriend bought a Minelab xterra 70 at Kellyco. I got a BH Pioneer 505 on their BOGO program. Eventually, I'm sure I'm going to upgrade. By the way, just got a Garrett ProPointer. A fantastic addition.
