Im interested in purchasing a used AT but the person selling bought it used as well and dosnt know its age, how can you find out? is there a serial # on machine that I can call Garrett about/ thank you for any help.

There is a serial number on the original box and it is also on a label on the underside the detector head housing.

If you flip the unit upside down it's on the label underneath the headphone connector.

The serial number is the 8 digit number on the left but it does not indicate on that label that it's the serial number.

I know that it is, only because it matches the Serial Number stated on the original box.

All AT Pro serials start with a 5 designating 2010 when they were first produced. The second digit is the year, the third and forth designate the week built. The last 4 digits are for internal use.

So 5234xxxx would be the 34th week of 2012.

This is how Garrett CS explained it to me.

Good info ... Thank you for posting
That decode seems to hold true for the Pro Pointer as well.
