Again not following "advice" paid off

Oftentimes I quietly chuckle to myself when I hear on the forums "there was never a home in that field, don't waste your time detecting it."

I hope a lot of people listen to the inaccurate advice these folks dispense because it's going to leave a lot more for me.

Case in point

I just found this neat old matchbox with matches still inside. This was in the same field where I found the four Barber quarter pocket spill. I don't think I've ever found another matchbox.
I can only wonder who it was that packed those matches in there that morning on the way out to the field which is where farmers practically spent their whole lives. And when he went to light his home rolled cigarette he found out his matchbox was gone.

I understand that as the farther west you go the less history there is to be discovered in farm fields. But that doesn't change the fact that a lot of blood sweat and tears were shed in these fields for many years, and meanwhile things dropped out of pockets, just waiting for us to come along and discover a 100 or 200 plus years later.

I find the field hunts fascinating. I am trying to figure out now how to research some sites so that I can enjoy those types of hunts.
Congrats on that great find.
I always think about the person who had lost the items I am finding in the ground and how they lost it.

very crusty advice Gary Nice

Can you imagine when they reached for their matches to light their smoke ....and it was not there? :ranting:

Those "fields" contain a lot of cabin sites that are not on any maps they are my favorite spots :)

I agree!unfortunately I don't think this was the site of a cabin since there's really no other evidence like square nails.

Very cool!
