So here's the story....
I head back to the park where I got the last two silver rings right? And I hit the curb strip along both sides of the sidewalk next to the parking lot. Not more than 30mins into my hunt...BAM! 84-85 signal...I dig and 2" down pops out a ring....the park is crowded so I toss it in my pouch and continue on. About one hour later, BAM! 85 signal dead on...I pop the plug and I see a ring, I toss it in my pouch and keep going. Soon it's time to head home.
I arrive home and start unpacking my finds from my pouch, first thing I see is this thing eying me from my pouch.
That's NOT a ring....it's a copper nut...no wonder it rang up 85. I peer at the 2nd ring and it's a ring all right but I'm not trusting it.
I get upstairs and take pictures of my loot.
That is a ring but something about it seems off.
At this point I'm thinking....it's a junk ring I bet anything.
I clean it up with water.
Hmm that's strange. There's a gray band around the center of the ring. I grab my lope and check it out, also checking for marks inside. It's marked inside V V V 925.
I decide to clean the ring with baking soda and water.
The ring shines on the inside and around the edges, but that center band is dull looking. I inspect it with the lope again. Ahhh....I see tiny dots of silver along that band of gray and cracks on the inside of the ring.
Yep....it's a faker.....silver plated and passed off as .925. Unless someone knows if V V V 925 = silver plated??
That's what I get for hunting and cackling to myself about the silver rings I'm finding. Nothing like being brought down to earth by hubris.
That's all folks, till I post my finds from Sunday. Nothing but old pennies and modern coins I'm afraid though.
