Well-known member
Spent the afternoon at the park with the AT PRO. Did very well on the deep old coins. Pulled 8 wheats and 1 rosie.

That is some seriously tough sod. We are spoiled up north where it is much easier to cut a plug or flap. Good finds, thanks for posting the video for us guys who cannot get out.

I cannot for the life of me understand why people have to stand up to scan the dang hole after they have dug it. Why not just grab the detector from your side, scan the dirt you have removed from the hole, if its not there, dig some more and rescan. WHY GET UP OFF THE GROUND TO SCAN? Do people believe the detector doesnt work while your kneeling?
Point number 2.. If your going to dig a hole the size of the grand canyon,, why use a screwdriver to do it with. Why try to minimize what your doing by kneeling down, and poking a little screwdriver around then prying up in little increments. Either way you do it your still digging a CRATER .just go ahead and get your big shovel and get it over with..

crackbadger1, First off if you've every tried to retrieve a target from 8-10" standing up just works better. Once you've broken the ground you often loose the signal altogether unless you get your coil in the hole. Also, a large plug is better on the environment than a small one. Granted my plug, this time, didn't turn our so well but the soil was very soft on the upper edge and it fell apart. Normally, if you watch my other videos, you'll see I usually get a good clean plug. In any case if you look at the finished job you'll see you can't even tell I was there.

I've been hunting this park for 30 years and do it right beside park workers with no problems because they know I care about their grass.

Nice finds !!..... Can't say as I like your digging technique ......They'd throw me out of the park in NYC if I dug like that ..... They want us digging 3 sides of a hole and then flip the plug so that there's still grass connected to the plug when it's flipped to aid in growing back .....We also lay down a mat of some sort to put the loose dirt on , and when done with the hole we just angle the mat to the hole and let the loose dirt go back into the hole ......YMMV .....Jim

 ......I just now watched Johns video .......That says it all !!......Jim

AGAIN, this recovery was not a normal for me. I didn't bring my towel and the ground, that normally hold together, fell apart. Not my best job but as you can see in the end there was nothing to show I was ever there. Here is a couple of my normal recoveries.

It normally takes me a minute to dig a three sided hole and retrieve the coin. The gti 1500 gives a good clue how deep to dig and pro-pointer tells me very quickly where the coin is,then flap back, and a stamp or two on the flap and off we go.

Anyone notice WHERE I recovered the coin? Would you like to know instead of making uneducated guesses? If you look at the video you'll see I recovered the coin from the last pull of dirt to the left side. Have you ever even recovered a coin at 8-10". A 4" flap my behind. Ya I wanna see a 8" coin recovered from a 4" flap. The whole intent was to show what a deep coin sounds like on the AT PRO, and all you can focus on is the idea you think you could have done better. I could have done better and generally do.

Now for some education. Cut a 4" flap and then an 8" plug, for a 8" target", replace it and come back in 6 months and tell us what you find. Ya, surprise!

I can guarantee you you WON'T find any old coins less than 7" deep at this park.

For those who are interested in how the AT PRO does on deep coins, here you go. For those of you who don't give a squat about the AT PRO, but just felt be insulting was the only productive comments you could come up with, put your money where your mouth is. Let's see that video of "proper recovery technique" on an 8" coin.

Pinpoint problems with ACE 250 is why I'm getting AT PRO, The 250 has too many hot spots on the regular coil.

Excellent. With all those wheats cents it looks like NO body had been detecting
there for a long time, if ever. You were the first!
Congrats
Katz

Take time to smell the flowers.

I am starting to wonder if everyone watched the entire video. It starts out showing undug turf and it ended up showing the turf having been restored very much like it was at the start. What more do you want?
