Aftermarket coils for the Excalibur????

Any of you guys (or gals) use an aftermarket coil like the WOT etc. on your Excals? If so which one and what are the advantages?
Hard to install?
Durable? etc.

I put a Sunray s-12 coil on a Excal it worked great !!...
little hard to use in the water.. but it sure did it's job..

Where did you find the pinout for the Sunray coil?

and yes it is a little hard to push around in the water but it is also lighter than the stock coil and performs great. It is very easy to pinpoint with.

The Sunray 12" is lighter than the stock 10" and gets alot more coverage. However, I think the depth is not as good. Since I concentrate on recent finds, it doesn't matter if it looses 2" in depth.

The recovery time is a little bit slower for some reason with this coil but the depth is deeper

That's my experience anyway.
Also the stock 10" coil also is more stable in black sand.

I tried to determine why. Put an ohm meter on coil.
The Sunray measures 2-3 times higher in resistance.
That tells me it creates a weaker inductive field.

That said, I use the 12" Sunray all the time,
unless I'm forced to swap to stock 10" due to heavy black sand.

Maybe someone out there has more detailed knowledge?

I used a WOT on my Excal with great success. At the time I owned one (I now us an Explorer II/WOT combo) I used waterproof connectors. Never switched the coil so the connectors were a waste of time & $$. Plus Minelab USA will hardwire an WOT for you (for a fee) and then you are good to go.

As to the WOT specifically, I have used on on the Sovereign, Excal & Explorer. It is, in my opinion, the best beach coil you can buy.

Hope this helps.

That's right, the whole gang would be:
Ardell, Raynell, Burnell, Lanell, W.L., Udell, Odell, Marcel, Claude, Neugene, and Clovis.
You are the first person who has caught that.
