After Work Luck!

Dang is it getting dark quick around here (MI). I decided to try a spot I haven't hunted for probably six years. The last time I hunted I remember things being very slim. It was an old park, then a scout camp. I headed west in a straight line and soon came across a nice deep wheat. Went another ten feet and found a partially masked Merc! About fifteen feet later same deal, partially masked but good enough to know it was a good target down there, 1908-O Barber! By the time I started heading east for the second pass it was getting dark. I dug a couple wheats and the IH (1901) which was about 9". I just kept locking onto deep coins. It was really dark before I reluctantly headed to the car. Not bad for about an hour and a half hunt.

It is odd since I remember my last few hunts there were very slow with almost nothing found. I am thinking that one or all of these things happened: 1. I got better with experience. 2. The Pro coil worked better. 3. I hit a lucky couple of strips. 4. The years moved targets around making them more detectable.

Whatever happened, it made my night, and I will be heading back to see if there is more.

with it getting dark out too early and it really is going to be bad since Daylight Savings Time is on Sunday. Another reminder to us all that Winter is almost here! Hope you get back there Big Fang and pop out a couple more goodies. I think more experience and ground shifting played a big part in you recovering what you did so congrats on having some luck at that previously hunted site. Continued Success, Good Luck and HH to you on your return trip.

Congrats Fang, I'm in Michigan too! There's still 2 more months worth of digging here, and if I remember right, I was out every winter month last year including several times in February!

we will lose another hour of daylight this weekend as you know:thumbdown:
Trying to squeeze in a hunt in the afternoon will be even tougher if you have to drive somewhere. It's not worth it if it's gonna' be dark at 5:00 now:help:

BFCB,

I almost always do better spring and fall when the ground is wet and grass not so thick. Not sure if that is the case in your neck of the woods now.

I'm sure that it's experience with the detector that you found
all those coins! And yes, it is getting darker faster now.....
everywhere. Seems like you just get started and then you
can't see what your digging. Congrats on a good hunt and hope
you make it back there for more silvers. Gold Nuggets :wiggle:
