After the storm mega ransack..

After a few days of gale force winds, I was up and at it this morning...air temp of 40 degreeish, I wore my underarmour bottoms, swim suit, bare feet, stocking hat, and a long sleeve heavy shirt, so I put my phone in the pocket to get y'all some pictures and had at these cuts!...I did 3 of my major beaches, probably walked an easy 5 miles... .[attachment 299009 sept1214-3.jpg].

See this strange black sand strata? Thats where the targets are...on down into that little trough at at the base of the washout...so one pass down, and one pass back...Lake michigan water level is 19" higher than it was last year! Thats a huge change, and its created a completely different situation as far as hunting is concerned...[attachment 299010 sept1214-2.jpg][attachment 299011 sept1214-1.jpg]

Heres the take, 124 coins, for 11.66 including 2 dollar coins, plenty of nickels...i was running the Pro with iron audio ON on account of that black sand layer messes with the signals, so a guy has to try to hear it all...hardly any light aluminum tabs, mostly heavy targets..[attachment 299012 sept1214.jpg]. junk toe ring, and junk bracelet..real nice cut, once the waves drop just a bit more, I'll work the riffle. I guess I was at it for 4hrs..shoulda been some gold or silver with all these targets...I am way overdue!

Jeez man, it sure wasn't for trying. That's a lot of booty !

Even with out the gold and silver, that still is a lot of nice plunder. You moved a good amount of sand yourself with all those targets. Good hunting Mud.:beers: HH jim tn

Way to go Mud. You sure left funny looking footprints around that hole! You bring a canine companion along to sniff out those coins?

Good coin count Mud!! A heck of a "ransack":bouncy: You know Togamac, Mud is a strong proponent of the Predator/Prey mindset, so those "wolf tracks" make sense to me!!

Real nice pics. Where you were hunting , is it normally a swim/ sunbathing beach? I see some of the coins look to have been lost for awhile. Others not so long.

Thanks guys..Yeah upnorth and Jimtn, I'm hurting this morning from a bad case of scoop elbow and stompfoot! Too much digging all at once! not like the normal few scoops every mile or so....Mac, this is what we call a 'dog' beach...you know dogs, they dont care what the weather is doing, they want to go for a run! I've gotten to know a lot of the regulars and their owners hunting this place as much as I do....

WY and Dancer got it figured out...I look for swales in the dunes, saddles in between them, since those are natural and easy water access points, 'human funnels'...i have found old silver coins and even a buff nickel in areas that got some use long ago out in Lake Michigan!....we had NO summer here, no days above 90 degrees, wet and rainy...only happened once before in 120yrs...plus, the water level came up the fastest it ever has...trillions of gallons and 19" increase in one year in unprecedented..

I've got to get back in it this am...the wind is fixing to change and bury all of this right back in about 12hrs...some of these spots only get exposed a few times every 50yrs, and then not for long....so I'll wait until this Advil kicks in, UnderArmour up, and give it another go...Time and gold wait for nobody! Good luck this weekend boys!:please:

That's a cool looking beach and lots of good stuff you found. I hope it's all gold & silver for you today!
And speaking of the weather....I've heard lots of folks saying "this is the first time in years", a lot here lately. Makes me wonder if we're in for a BAD winter?

Just that quick!...Took some pics of what awaited me..[attachment 299054 sept1314-2.jpg].water temp really cold, air temp mid 40's and N wind building big surf! [attachment 299055 sept1314-1.jpg] I did manage to locate 22 coins for 2.12 and a junk medallion...I was bundled up except for my bare feet, which immediately froze, but I covered several miles and stayed at it until 10 when it started to rain and sleet again...weather like this sure lets a fellow know he's still alive on this Planet, on account of how much it hurts! A lot of coins get caught in the roots of the dunegrass along that little slope as the waves wash them along....[attachment 299056 sept1314.jpg]

The Pro was hitting coins at a solid foot down in the sand..I just need one little window of opportunity for the waves to drop, but that may be a few days...a guy just has to hunt a rainbow now and then!

Amazing how fast it filled back in. Sounds like some very tough hunting conditions. I was mumbling and moaning early this morning with our brisk north wind and temps in the upper 50's. And I don't like stepping in dog poop, so I don't hunt barefoot. Good you got out and found some spendable targets. HH jim tn

Mud you're crazier than a road lizard to get out in weather like that. I guess it's not all that bad to you compared to shoveling snow and breaking ice to get to a target.

Nice going!

Excellent opportunity and excellent finds.Sometimes , if you blink, those special moments disappear very quickly! You should write a story on that ans submit it to Western & Eastern Magazine or donate it to the Garrett "Searcher".
