First time out in the water since TD Debby...Still have a west wind bringing in some waves but no real problem...The water is dirty and the outgoing tide from the bays is brackish pouring into the gulf.Got out on the falling tide and started detecting the large piles of shells along the beach before hitting the water...Found a few Penny's first before finding the silver peace ring and the... toe ring?not a full circle ring with onyx i think..,.Waded out to the sandbar and in an hours time found the silver band( its silver, not sure about the letters ..PSCL?), the gold colored bracelet, looked good in the scoop, hair thing, and some clad other than Penny's...Things getting back to normal here in Fla...the heat is on...beaches are filling up for the 4TH...Good Luck HH bob.oz

PSCL could be the makers initials. Nice silver finds, Hopefully the gold didn't sink too far.

Yesterday at st. Pete I didnt find any gold and I pounded the bch and the surf hard for 6hrs and I was wondering if the gold did sink instead of coming out from below

Captain..... things may still be changing. If the high water tides can remove sand and leave us a shell HP we might get some of that gold off the beach. If it removed the beach like it did here and moved it all out in the water we may have to wait until those rip tides or longshore drift cuts that moved sand enough for us to get to anything that may have been moved. A lot is going to depend on our summer weather.

Different beach today/still no gold.....Alot of tabs, tops and sand in the trough between the beach and sandbar....... the sandbar lost alot of sand..more shell in the first scoop in some areas and the coins i did find were very crusty and from the deeper smelly sand...monkey charm was encased in crud,no marks.Good Luck HH bob.oz

Right before Debby hit I worked the bank where the beach was cut - 3 foot washed away leaving a shelf.
At Belleair beach found lots of clad along the bottom of that bank, did about 3/4 mile of it with no jewelry then 1/4 mile in the water same deal.
Water was real muddy from replenishment just to the north at Sand Key.
next day tried St Pete beach - only clad and aluminum in the 4 volleyball courts.
Water was too rough to try and just as muddy as 20 miles to the north.
Did not try Madiera that trip but have gotten gold there before.

Well we are back from our week on Longboat Key. Tropical Storm Debby paid us an extended visit from Sat. afternoon until Tues. night bringing 45+ kt winds and flooding rain quantities. Incredible length of time for that thing to make landfall and clear out. Our condo lost some vinyl soffett and another had partial roof loss which resulted in relocation of it's occupants I'm sure. Couldn't hit the beach w/detector until Wed. am and found very little as the water conditions were very hostile to detecting. Staying in the wet sand of Holmes Beach I found a disappointing quantity of clad and just plain junk. Returning next morning to more favorable water conditions I waded out and had basically the same experience of the day before except that there were other hunters now. An elderly man and I presume his wife who were dressed nearly alike with near identical detectors and scoops. I recall seeing this pair on previous trips. Not the most gregarious hunter in the world, however I never just ignore and will always try to acknowledge or talk to any other hunter within earshot. This fellow seemed a bit curmudgeonly. He swung his way right up and around me without even eye contact, a nod, word or anything. Watching him as he hunted I saw him dig and find a target, and on realizing it to be rusty iron, with obvious disgust he just tossed it aside. I know what it was because I examined it when he'd gone a ways down the beach. I began noticing many pieces of rusty stuff on the surface after that near disturbed sand which told me he and likely she were doing that with those type finds and it really made me question his level of common sense. If you are digging rusty iron !!!! in the first place, I ask you, why the heck do you just toss it down to be covered and dug on your next trip to the beach? Later that day I met a friendly fellow Excal toter named Bob who I also recall from earlier vacations. Friday am I ventured to Siesta Beach and hunted that from nearly sun-up to 1ish. Met a couple more hard searching friendly Excal toters there too and the infrequency of our targets made me wonder where my reluctance (AKA stubbornness) to crank up my PI PRO comes from. I know I'd have dug my butt off considering all the nulling experienced and my lack of machine knowledge where the PRO is concerned but I am surely kicking myself for not even trying it. I surely hope that if I am fortunate enough to make that trip The gulf can manage that week WITHOUT ANY tropical bleeding storms.
