After Seeing The Test Results I Ordered A 5 x 10 DD Coil

You need to watch all of his videos. All 34 of them. They're very informative.

The 11 inch DD coil didn't even detect the small gold earring.

The 5 x 10 DD coil will make tot lot hunting a breeze and should work great in large open areas as well.

I got a fantastic deal on a new 5 x 10 DD coil! PM me for info.

Looks like the micro-jewelry results are:

Fisher Gold Bug 2 ............... 6.5" Coil .............A/M ...... 1.5" / Iron Disc ... 2.5"
Fisher Gold Bug 2 ...............10x5" Coil .......... A/M ...... 2.0" / Iron Disc ... 2.6"

Fisher Gold Bug Pro ............ 5" Coil .................A/M ..... 1.8" / Disc ......... 1.3"
Fisher Gold Bug Pro ............10x5" DD Coil .....A/M ..... 2.3" / Disc ......... 1.5"
Fisher Gold Bug Pro............. 11" Coil ...............A/M ....... 0" / Disc ........... 0"

Tesoro Lobo Supertraq ........ 10" Coil .............. A/M ...... 1.6" / Disc ......... 0.9"

Glad you like the videos. Keep in mind that the coils were kept stationary to minimize measurement differences due to coil sweep variations while trying to measure depth relative to each other. When the coil is in motion on this same test instead of the earring, depth decreased fairly consistent across the board. All-metal mode on all three metal detectors saw a drop in depth of about 1/4"-3/8" with the coil in motion while scrubbing the sand. Discrimination mode saw a greater drop in depth of between 5/8" - 3/4".

You did a fantastic job! Thanks.

Sold my 5 in and 11 inch coils the 5 X 10 is here to stay:biggrin:

I just read where Dave J. stated that, "despite its 19 kHz operating frequency, the G2 has a very good reputation for beach work, just remember to put a plastic bag over its head to protect it from corrosive air". In a couple of months I have a trip planned to Houston to visit my sister and brother-in-law and go down and stay at their beach house in Galveston. I've been fretting over which of my detectors I should to take with me. I'm now thinking that my Gold Bug Pro with the 5 x 10 inch DD coil might be just the ticket to dry sand hunt with, since it's so hot on small gold jewelry. Now I have to decide on which back-up detector to take.

Thank you for your hard work, Kai_gold, excellent videos, all of them! The 11" 's performance (or lack thereof) surprised me. I swing the 5 and 10 inch coils and have never used the 11" DD. Having viewed vids of GB DP owners, they seem satisfied with the performance. Do you have any idea what caused the poor performance of the 11" coil?

I have now had two of the 11" dd coils and both showed similar performance. They seem more susceptible to emi interference as they were both really noisy for me unless gain was set to about 12 o'clock. The ground here is also pretty mineralized so I imagine it is a combination of both. There could be some local source of strong emi here, though I have experienced this pretty much everywhere I used it within about 5 miles of my home. We do have some cell towers not too far from here, some large power lines a couple of miles from here, and phoenix airport 15-20 miles away. Perhaps the guys out in the woods are getting less emi? It is still a good coil. I found a lot of coins and some silver jewelry with an 11".

I don't know what the engineers did different with the 5x10 as it is much more quiet in my location with the same emi sources. I made this tests to see how they perform in my locale with dirt conditions like I search so the mineralization and emi are things I have to deal with. I would expect variations from my results in other places.

Ah yes that's possible. I seldom if ever think of EMI because the places I swing at are far removed from cellphone towers and electricity except for lightning.

Kai_gold the videos that you have done with the 5x10 coil has made up my mind and should arrive today.
Would like to see you do a video on flake gold or powder to see how small it can pick up in your test bed.
Keep up the good work. May you find what you seeking.

Hey tabman, Not really sure how the heck we are supposed to send Pms here but I would be interested in that pricing info you found for the 5x10.
