A return of the Gun

I bought a house in 2002, it was built 1850ish. In 2004 a knock at the door, he introduced himself and said he was born in the house and stayed for over 20 years. He saw that I had gutted it completely and I told him about my finds in the walls. I took out the little cap gun with red handles and he actually teared up and swallowed a few times. After a few minutes of silence he told me the story of the gun and how he would chase the family around the house saying bang bang bang got ya, bang bang bang got ya. Well this carried on he said until mom just had enough and one day she dropped in the hole in the kitchen wall. But she never said a word until before her death as to where she put the cap gun.

This man at my door was in his late seventies and I have never seen in my life what a little re-union as this was can do to a man, with tears running down his face he asked, may I? Yes it was a question can I have my gun back without asking it. I hope others can have the opportunity in life to experience such a thing with the odd item they find. It truly is heartwarming to do so.

Wonderful jesture on your part. To a man his age that sentimental gift was worth more than silver and gold. I'm just an old softy and you and J88 have my eyes full of water with your kindness and compassion for others. Both these people in these different posts were hurting and both you and j88 brought some unexpected joy into their life. Job well done.

Freaking Awesome it does my Heart good to know there are still people in this world that believe in the way we should all live and that is treat others as you want to be treated . That man will hold you dear to heart ,trust me the gesture you did for him not only made him Happy but instilled a belief in his Heart that God works miracle's every day God Bless you and Thanks for Sharing . This is one Story that should have been on the News for sure!

There's an old saying, BarryL.
If I do good, I hear it never, but if I do wrong, I hear it ever.
People are not as quick to congratulate someone for a good deed as they are to condemn for a bad deed.
Having said this, WTG for all the good reputation of our hobby. Well done.....

Cool story Jon it definitely feels better to give than receive!!

Way to go M D in! There is nothing more valuable than connecting with another human being on that level. It'll come back to you for sure. Good job man.

I think he did a great service to our hobby and the folks he helped, BarryL. I was just commenting on the cynicism of some people and how they find fault. Mark Twain said: "A lie can get half way around the world before the truth gets it's shoes on"
This simply means that bad news and remarks get more air play in the media than good deeds and remarks. No criticism on my part, just commentary on the society and their penchant for bad news. If you make a mistake, even tho it's an honest mistake, that's all people will remember or want to remember. My hat's off to both these members of our forum and hobby and nothing but good thoughts about what they did. I agree with you this story should be on the news, but they reserve most of their time and space for bad news. I believe in the goodness of people and believe we all should treat each other respectfully, but everybody doesn't feel that way and that was the point I was trying to make.
