Affordable Beach Detector (Recommendations?)

New member
Hey gang! I'm new to this site so I'll keep it short. I currently have a beginner Garrett Ace 150 which screams bloody murder when I take it to the beach. I think it's because of the high mineral deposits in the sand. I am in search of Gold/Silver. Any suggestions on a suitable all-around detector I can use on the beach and off?

Agreed about the Excal. Not cheap but then quality circuitry never is. If you can't find gold with an Excal it's because it's just not there to find.

Cheers,

Or its too deep even for the Excal...

A good all around dirt/dry/wet sand is the DFX or I hear even the new M-6 from whites will do ok on the wet sand.

If it is within 16" of the coil I'll find it. If it is a big target then 2' plus.

Cheers,

Excal 1000

No such thing as black sand in Bermuda

You maybe but not everyone who runs a Excal.. A detector is only as good as the person running it.. :)

It would be x-terra 50 OR Explorer not affordable.... but money machine or i would say gold machine, which save you a lots of time.

Alex.

I am fortunate to be able to hunt in an area with very little interference from hydro or radio transmissions, plus no black sand so I get excellent depth penetration from my Excal.
That and I am able to get to the goodies (usually) by using my own wacky style which seems to pay off for the most part. Don't ask me why but it works and I'll keep doing it that way until it doesn't.
I've been thinking hard about getting a really good PI machine to up the ante but I am concerned that I won't get better results for the same reason that my Excal works so well here in Bermuda - NO BLACK SAND which seems to help the PI machine and hurt the BBS technology.
You're a PI Guy, what do you think? Would an Eric Foster unit be worth the investment in a area without ferrous content?

Thanks,

BDA:cool:

PI will get even better depth in non black sand..The PI PRO'S depth is the best I have ever seen...I have seen it used side by side with all the best beach detectors many times...it seems to beat them all With ease..

You have a great detector and as far as I am concerned so do I :)

If I was to get another water machine it would be an Eric Foster machine but I'm happy right now with my PI PRO.

Mr.Bill let me play in his coin garden with it and my PI is plenty deep :)

There are times when I wish I had a machine that could discriminate out some of the iron but I am very comfortable with my detector and I have learned a nail or bobbypin are broken signals and big iron is a long drawn out wow type sound.
