...a "circle" or "dot" from where the coil was formed. That is usually where the target is during pinpointing. Good Luck!
 
if you are having a hard time, move your coil off the target a little and pull your pinpoint trigger again, this detunes it, making a smaller target area which will be in the center of the coil, depth indicator is no longer accurate when detuned
