Hi, i have been detecting on and off for about 3 years now but have yet to find anything, I often go on my mates field which was said to be in the grounds of a roman castle yet it has not produced. I have also tried beaches but have fund nothing of value. I currently own the tesoro stingray, but i find it hard to discrimnate against iron. May this be the main reason? If so what machines do you reccomend? Please give any other advise. Many thanks

your kidding right? If you haven't found anything in 3 years simply go to another site!Although you have a water machine you should and will find coins or whatever on a land hunt.

We haven't heard if the friend is finding anything. If he is why not go for the same machine.
U.K. hammered silver, like small copper and bronze Roman coins may not be picked up at all by many machines on the market or if picked up and its a metered machine will I.D. down in the iron section of the meter.
You can't really go wrong with an XP Goldmaxx or Goldmaxx Power or a U.K. version Tejon with its expanded lower discrimination range. with your Tesoro it could just be that you haven't adjusted the internal trimmer to re set for land conditions.

My advice is: Read the manual again, swing the coil low to the ground and shut off that discriminator!!!! Try one day with no disc and see what pops up. There is no way you should not be finding lots with any machine after three years. Also do an air test to make sure your machine isn't broken. And next time don't wait 3 years to settle this. Detecting is a great hobby and you should be sharing in it! George
