Hey all...been hunting beaches for sometime but deeper water is calling..am buying a machine but like any feed back on pros and cons, will be hunting east coast..Key West right now... thanks in advance for all of your input...

IF YOU WANT TO HUNT IN THE WATER AND WET/DRY SAND TOO THEN GET THE BEACH HUNTER ID. USE TONE ID IN DRY. THEN FLIP IT IN TOO ALL METAL AND USE THE VISUAL ID IN THE WET SAND AND WATER.IF YOU PLAN TO ONLY HUNT IN THE WATER YOU WILL DO WELL WITH THE PI THE DEPTH IS CRAZY!! IN THE WATER THERE IS MUCH LESS TRASH TO DRIVE YOU NUTS.THE PI HAS NO DISC..BUT WITH TIME YOU CAN START TO PICK OUT WHAT SHAPE A TARGET IS AND JUDGE THE POSSABLE SIZE GIVING YOU A IDEA OF A GOOD OR BAD TARGET. GOOD LUCK CRAIG PI IS THE BEST PI HUNTER I HAVE SEEN IN A WHILE HE WILL HAVE SOME INFO FOR YA TOO I AM SURE.

Thanks for the kind words BH... But I don't deserve them... :)

I'm a PI guy even though I have both machines... I guess if I was to hunt in the dry sand I would use a discriminating machine more, I prefer to hunt only in the water and I look for and hunt deep water troughs where there is little if any trash, I don't meander around just anywhere but thats me and my style. I love the PI because its light and well balanced as well as very deep and I can hear the difference between big iron and a good find. You have to remember our coil has to go over a target for us to recover it.

If you're going to hunt in the sand wet/dry go with a discriminating detector... if you want to water hunt, you don't need a discriminating detector, you will find lots of fishing weights and such but little in the way of bobby pins and bottle caps out where the troughs are, they tend to stay along the surf line and wet sand. I stay in water waist to chest deep for the most part. Best tides are minus tides 2 hours before MLW and 2 hours on the incoming.

Thank you Craig PI...I have 2 machine I can hunt on the beach, I find myself wanting to go deeper water...I think I will get a PI machine...one question tho...??On a coin sized object what depth can you get with a PI. thanks again.... IAM

I have found cookie coins down as far as any of my deep gold finds.. Last week I had a whisper and was hoping it was a ring but it turned out to be a silver dime and it was very deep, 6 scoops... shallow targets (less than 9 inches) usually bang loud.. as targets become deeper they are softer sounding and the really deep targets are just a break in the threshold and those are generally good targets, its hard to describe a break in the threshold without hearing it for yourself.. I'll try though :) For me a break sound is vaaa vaaa you can fan with your foot to see if it gets louder and then start digging. On iron targets the sound is usually a drawn out wooow type sound and I don't dig those sounds you will be able to tell iron when you hear it as you learn the detector. I used to use factory settings with the PI but now after hunting with a very good PI user from another state, he showed me a new setting. When you turn on the Gain leave it around 10 O'clock position and then set the Tuner (threshold) as loud as you want, the threshold is very clean in this setting my first 3 times out with the new setting I scored 11 gold rings... I play with the settings depending on the beach I am on.

The PI is a fun machine that gets a bad rap sometimes but if you have patience you will score with it. I rather hunt a beach that has already been hit by a water hunter with a discriminating machine than do one with a PI because PI users get it all :) Save the sand for the discriminating machine and use the PI in the wet :)
