Hello Everyone,

My name is Wesley and I am a newbie. I have been a believer since 1991. I attend a great church and I have been married going on 8 years. I need some advice. I am looking for a metal detector that I can use at the beach (salt/fresh)water as well as parks, forest, buildings, etc. This is a new hobby for me so I really need some help. Wesley:confused:

Hi Wesley!

Welcome to the forum! Well, there's lots to choose from... I guess the major question is how much is your budget? That'll narrow down the choices to the ones that are best for the type of hunting you'll do and how much $$ you're willing to part with :) Where do you live?

Where are you from? One of the best machines out there for salt and fresh water detecting is the Fisher CZ-20. There are many others out there, but most don't handle salt like this machine. It is also a great deep seeking machine on land. I hope you stop back real soon! God bless! :)

Hi Wesley - sounds like you have your life in great shape ! I use a Fisher 1280X for in the water (very little here in Az) or on the dirt. It works great either way. It is hip mountable so not heavy all day long; goes as deep and sounds off as well as any made I believe. It does not have a readout - just goes by sounds which I am used to. They run around 600 bux, good luck & welcome to our group here ! Steve in so az

Welcome Wesley, I use a Fischer CZ-20 and love it. I am not sure if they make it any more but I know they have a new one out called CZ-30. If you could get a used Cz-20 that would be great. They guarantee them for life. Good hunting

Hey Mike,

I grew up in Berkley Mi. I moved to Chicagoland 10 years ago.
I live in Elgin, IL. The reason for looking for a water(salt/fresh) detector is I am going the St. John's in early march and I want to try it on the beach in shallow water as well as land.

Hey Joe,

I want to spend about around $500-$800 or so
I don't want the cheapest, I want something decent

you can make it to our forum hunt this summer in SW MI. Either way the CZ-20 is a great macjine. You can probably pick up a used one. Fisher also makes the 1280X that is a little cheaper but a great machine. You can get a used one for about $350.
