Advice to newbies from a newbie

I had a really good weekend:
2 Late 1700's colonial coins
1820 Large Cent
2 1905 /6 Barber Dimes
1 1906 Barber Quarter
1926 Mercury Dime
There was no guesswork... they all screamed at me,
usually registering at high tones, 28 on the meter, with the deepest being the large cent at around 9 inches. The rest, even the colonial coins were only 5 inches or less. I think the most important thing is to go where old coins should be, and if they are there, you'll find them
with your explorer!

Wow! You hit that right on the head.
"...the most important thing is to go where old coins should be, and if they are there, you'll find them with your explorer..."
And at 5 inches or less, I wonder why they weren't found with pre-1985 detectors? <IMG SRC="/forums/images/biggrin.gif" BORDER=0 ALT=":D">
