I use an AT Pro at a lake here in Texas, where I live. What do you guys do with your detectors when you are recovering an item? I know the pro is waterproof, and I've had it wet many times already. But I'm reluctant to just let it go when I'm trying to recover something. Where I hunt at, there's no fear of it floating too far from me, I don't think. I always try to use my scoop one handed, which isn't good at all, of course. Let's hear what some of you guys do...please.

I have a piece of parachute cord with a hangman's noose on one end and an aluminum carabiner on the other end. Put the noose around the shaft and attach the carabiner to your belt and the detector is not going anywhere. Works for me in the surf with all the water movement that I encounter.

I've got the Pro too and hunt fresh water lakes....I leave that arm strap a little loose, in shallow water or about waist deep, I sort of swing the detector off to the side with my arm still through the strap, grab my scoop with both hands and pull it toward me like its a hoe instead of stepping on it like its a shovel...in deep water up to my chest or deeper, I pull my arm all the way out and let it float...it has a nice almost neutral balance, slightly positive, just floating there all serenely with the cuff up...tethered to me by the headphone cord...I dont hunt the heavy surf any deeper than knee deep on the BIG LAKE on account of its nearly impossible to scoop a target if a guy managed to hit one, too much rip, and the waves are high and too close together, ankle to knee deep is about all a guy can do on days like that...and dry sanding of course.....I like the parachute cord deal Geo mentioned...

Ditto Mud. My lake hunting is in 2-4' deep water. My scoop is a modified rake which I pull towards me. I simply move the Pro towards my rear and let her float tethered to my headphones. Has worked OK for 2 plus years so far.

Good ideas guys, thanks. I don't know why I'm so scared to let go of the thing...I guess cause it cost so much money, lol.

Yeah, dont worry about it....let 'er float...just come up with a scoop method that is fast and effective, besides, if for some strange reason it floats away and you lose it, just call Garrett, you got a 2yr warrantee!
(I saw that rake you made Tog, thats the ticket for where you hunt alright!)

I still am not the fastest at recovery with my scoop either. I'm gonna try the "hoe method" next time, and just use the cuff band on the pro and let her float!
Thanks for the info, guys!

I use the loose strap method and swing it to the side away from the scoop. Watch Garrett's lake hunt videos and you will see Sue throw hers down in the water to dig each target. The detector bobs alongside her.
