Advice on widescan coils

Tony

Member
I'm going to be hunting in quite mineralised ground...looking for old coins with the chance of some of them being fine gold.

I was after some advice on which widescan coil would be best suited to my Vaquero...elliptical or round and then what size.

Hopefully the areas I want to hunt in should be free from a lot of modern junk. I definitely want to eliminate all iron targets.

Thanks for any help,
Tony (Australia)

We all have personal preferences but if it were me I would go with the 8.5 widescan. The 10 inch elliptical "might" be a tad more sensitive to tiny targets but if it conforms to typical elliptical widescans it will have less depth, and while the 11 inch round widescan would go deeper than 8.5 or elliptical it would would be less sensitive to small targets than either. As for iron rejection, widescan coils don't discriminate out round rusty iron things very well, so you'll probably dig some iron regardless of which widescan you choose.
