Hello all would appreciate any feed back about this coil (whites D2 10" DD) I'm looking to replace my 950 concentric on my MXT. I have a whites 4x6 shooter coming next week for high trash/prospecting I am also considering the 12x10 SEF so Im comparison shopping ,I hunt mostly old home sites ocasional beach.

Hi jmario, If you do a search on this forum link, you can find out a lot of information on the coil and other coils from past posts. Lots to read and easy to find. HH, Nancy

Thank you Nancy,
About the time I posted my questions my Google search popped up with multible links back to this forum . Ah aint technology grand !

I would still like any real time opinions and updates from our users.
And just incase some one has that particular coil D2 10" for sale or trade I am interested.

I don't yet have enough posts to list on the classifides section but when I do off goes the Whites 950 concentric.

I didn't like my D2 10" at all and much prefer the 950 to it, but I'm in AZ and the soil is highly mineralized. For a large coil for hunting the beach (dry sand), I think the BigFoot is as good as it gets.

[size=large]i love my D2. got my MXT PRO back in May 2011. got to seRCH A CHURCH PROPERTY AND GOT MY ONE AND ONLY FRANKLIN HALF A GOOD 8" DOWN WITH A SOLID HIT. cap key stuck. if you get a bigger coil then you'll go deeper. it's in the science. but the more trash the less effective the large coils. you also have a little more weight. if your beach hunting bigger would help cover more area quicker.no coil works perfect everywhere. one of the roblems we all face. affording the differant coils and machines. you keep talking prospecting and old home sites and maybe ghost towns? i'd still recommend the 6x10 for the all around gotcha covered coil. hope yer happy with what ever you settle on.

I would like to thank every one who whos posted to my questions your advice is invaluable I feel more confident about which coil combinations to go with I'll do a little more research before making my final decision.
Your response's have helped clear a few of my concerns up.

I'm thinkin if I had unlimited funding research and development wouldn't keep me up at night .

Hey jmario,

I am going to be buying an MXT Pro soon and i was thinking of swapping the 12" stock for something else if Kellyco will allow me. I only have enough money for one extra coil....and i am pretty set on getting a 4x6 for when i hit the trashy areas. I have been doing my research and it's driving me nuts! I cannot decide on a coil to switch the 12" out for (if they let me, i haven't called yet.) I am mainly looking for depth. I cannot stand even thinking about buying a smaller coil and sacrificing the depth...because usually the good stuff is the deep stuff. So i was thinking about getting a D2 10" because i heard the 12" stock coil isn't that great. I was also thinking about a 13" DD...but i don't think you have one. I see this post is a month old, and i was wondering....have you bought the D2? Do you have any advice for me? Is the 12" stock for the Pro, bad? (just in case they won't allow me to swap coils.) Hopefully you can respond within a week because that is when i am buying my detector and supplies.

Hello KyleTheHunter
I am very satisfied with my new D2 10"DD and 4x6 shooter my local dealer gave me an amazing price I tried to negotiate with Kellyco but they were not very reasonable I was also pricing the MXT Pro not sure what price they quoted you but I did find another vendor who supports this forum offered me a very good price with free shipping . More about the Concentric coils I'm learning they have there uses very good for open ground low trash and low mineralization,As far as depth yes you will get more but there is a trade off there is a lot of information about that just keep researching and asking questions feel free to contact me with more questions I'll try to help

I think KyleTheHunter and myself both would be interested in knowing the specific differences between the super 12" coil vs the 10" D2. Obviously, thats comparing a concentric coil to a DD coil, the DD will cover more ground since it provides a knife like signal the length of the coil and the concentric makes a cone shape signal, narrowing as it goes deeper. Besides the scientific differences of the basic designs, what responses do you expect from each of these coils in a given setting? Will one become unstable while the other excells? Which will go deeper in BEST CASE SCENARIO? Am I correct that the 12" concentric is HELPLESS in hotrocks and heavy iron, also in heavy trash? While the D2 is usable in each of those areas?

I understand everyone has different ground and minerals, but lets assume the comparision is a BEST CASE scenario. Whats the most depth each of these coils can see a dime?

Some good info on coil types, http://www.treasurefinders.net/types_of_coils.html The Double D coil explaination says it sacrifices depth to cover more ground with each swipe and not being effected as badly by heavy ground mineralization compared to concentric coils. Each have their trade-offs and advantages.

I live in PA and after talking with the guy from Kellyco he said that, Pennsylvania has high mineralization....i also like to hunt in NJ and he said that has high mineralization also. So my question is do you think the 10" D2 would be a good coil for me? OR do you think i should stick with the 12" stock? Also what kind of depth do you get with the 10"? I am having such a hard time deciding....and i need to make my choice soon.

I am curious about the 13" DD.....because it is both a large coil and a DD coil....so maybe it's the best of both worlds?

[size=large]kyle, one thing about the 13" DD is it's new. has no track record. the science has been, the larger the coil the worse it is for trashy ground. don't matter DD or not. do a reality check. how deep are your targets really gunna be? relic hunting is done in areas mostly with a lot less trash. you do need to be able to go deep. your parks and schools are gunna be trashy. you're looking at deep being 6"-10"? you'll also get better pin pointing the smaller the coil. less trash more ground is covered with the bigger coils in less time. i'd go with the average coils. these are the ones where folks have found the best amount of targets when hunting like you are gunna do. the 6x10 has a very good track record. we have high minerials here in the s.w. corner of washington state and my D2 does great for all around use. so far it's been about the coils. one does need to remember the settings. too much can be as bad as too big a coil. putting myself in your shoes i'd go with the 6x10. it's the one coil constantly mentioned for best all around use to begin with. just get it and start hunting. you'll do well with it and can save for the other coils as you go along. if you end up thinking you need another.

Thanks for your response. The thing is i am not all that worried about trash because i am also getting a 4x6 as my alternate coil when i hit those heavy trash areas. I am more interested in finding old colonial coins....and i heard they can be 12" sometimes. Since i am getting a 4x6, which doesn't have much depth.....i wanted a primary coil to use for DEPTH because my secondary is for trash. Don't get me wrong i would like to find relics too....but i am really interested in finding old coins. So i would need a coil that could go deep enough but also see a coin which are usually small. That's why i was thinking about the 13" because it goes deep and people said the DD technology helps with minerialized ground, which i have. I was thinking about getting a 6x10 but like i said.....i am already going to have a 4x6....so i will need a coil for depth. What do you think i should do? Keep the 12" that comes with the MXT pro? or go with the D2?

People say the 300 12" that comes with Pro, isn't great....but is it really that bad? I mean if i hit the real trash i will just use the 4x6 to clear it out and then slap on the 12" to see if their are any deep targets under it.

[size=large]so far my deepest has been 54' ben franklin half at 8" with a very solid hit. if that's the deepest coin i've passed my D2 over then that's all i can say it goes. i'm sure it will go deeper though. the 6x10 goes that deep. in minerlized soil i'm convinced the D2 is the better coil. the 13" may prove to be much better but it's just now getting here.
i also read , in the last few days on this forum somewhere, that coils other than whites on whites machines can or will de-tune the machine. i'm un-aware of any confirmation of that. it could be just a scare tactic from a whites devotee or the real deal. i'm not an electrical person who knows these things.so caution should be used here. i won't use my 8x6 sef til i know one way or the other myself. will pose the question to the forum.

Awesome, thanks.

I've read the info about SEF coils de-tuning Whites machines and repeated here but like you say, No confirmation if its true or not. I know alot of people use SEF coils on the MXT and it seems like a rare complaint. But if your machine is de-tuned, would you REALLY know it??? How many people have one that is de-tuned and just put up with it performing under par?

I have a MXT & have used both the 12" & the D2, I think the D2 is the better of the two. I say this because the D2 is lite & works well in all soil, & I believe is just as deep if not deeper than the 12". I have a new D2 v rated & I always go back to the 6x10 the only reason I keep the D2 is I have been trying to trade it for a 8x10 butterfly.

[size=large]i wouldn't know if my machine was de-tuned. how does one tell? just what is de-tune?
please don't give me de-tune of de-day.

I love my 10" DD coil. I've dug junk deeper, but my deepest good target was a US belt plate and when I could see the edge, I measured it with my digger. It was right at 10 inches deep to edge and it was on it's edge. The signal was loud and clear and the VDI was high 70's like it is for all brass. I later air tested it and it gives a good tone out to 21 inches and a correct VDI out to 18 inches. Needless to say, I use it for all my relic hunting. I don't give the 10"DD all the credit. The MXT is a really great machine! HH

If your detector was "detuned" or more commonly known as out of specifications, it would not operate as it did when it was new and a "detuned" detector would likely have internal components that has changed in value for various reasons. Using an aftermarket coil is not one of the reasons.

I have not hunted for a few years but have an mxt 300 and a m-6 I have been using a 6x10 double d in the past and it is a great coil however I had a friend that had a doubleD and out hunted me consistently with it. I have found gold rings, gold jewelry, lots of silver coins and pocket change every time I went out.
