Advice on the Fisher ID Edge

Ridgetop

New member
I need an excellent metal detector that can be used for relics, coins, and sometimes for jewelry. I live in the mountains, so I will not be using it on the coast. Does the Edge really have the ability to discriminate through old trash sites? Will it give me the depth that I need for detecting relics?
Any pros or cons about the Edge will be most appreciated. I want the detector that succeeds where others fail. Any other recommendations?

The Excel & Edge both are excellent in hunting in iron for a couple of reasons. 1. They are stable with excellent discrimination filtering, unlike the FT based Fisher models . 2. The display shows the ID of items that have been discriminated out. In the the case of iron, the numbers are negative. This real time rejected iron data helps distinguish between the effect of an iron false that mimics a high coin ID, or a good target sitting amongst the iron. And all the while not having to run zero discrimination and suffer the audio fatigue of the latest Fisher labeled FT product. They are not the deepest detectors available, but the Edge equipped with the small coil will do an excellent job on pulling good items out of iron. And yes I do own and use both the Excel & Edge along with a multitude of other Fisher and other brands/models.

Thanks for the info on the Edge. I need my detector to perform well in Civil War sites as well as 1850's home places. Guess I want the best "all around" detector.
