Advice on the EXcal 1000 and Excal 2

Hi guys ..I have a chance to purchase the previuos model Excalibur 1000 at about half the price of the new model and the detector is in very good condition.Does anyone know the difference in the new excal2 as compared to the previous blue excal 1000 ..Does the newer model have much better improvements..
I just need your advice before I go out and buy it.....Thanks in advance guys

I've had both the blue Excalibur 1000 and the new Excalibur II 1000. The differences are: The color. There are some updated electronic parts. The batteries are now NIMH instead of Nicad. The coils are a bit thinner and glide through the water better. I feel that the newer Excalibur II is a bit better overall than the older version. The newest version has better shielding (I am told). But at half price, I would get the older blue version and buy a straight shaft or chest mount, NIMH battery pack and a WOT coil. With the rest of the money you save, buy a good sand scoop or digger.

The one advantage of buying new is the warranty. Since I always modify my Excaliburs anyway, the warranty does not mean much to me.

Between the Blue & the Excal 2 there was another model excal 800/1000 that had yellow headphones. I have all 3 with WOT coils mounted on first 2. I like and hunt the Blue most of the time since I can distinguish the tone for can slaw from and gold, pultabs & nickels. Buy it and change out the coil & headphone cups & U R good 2 go

i like the New Excal 2 the best.the battery and the coil are great improvements.and a warranty on a new one is very important to me as one dunk under water and a leak can cost you more than you would save buying a used one with no warranty.

i like the xcal2 but i think they bild the older model much stronger i gad the xcal1000 for 2 years not one problem excal 2 after a year the battery wire cracked and i'm not the only one who had problems like me

Thanks for the advice guys.....I think i'll be going for the Excal 1000 :wiggle:

How deep U going to dunk? they are good to 200 ft+ & my Blue is under water 99% of the time 4-6 days a week 365 weather permitting and has been for many years

what i was talking about was "IF" it has a leak in one of the seals,it can leak in as little as 6" of water or even in the rain. and id rather have a new one with warranty to cover the cost of having it repaired from water damage.

So are you going to buy a new one every year just to have a warranty?
