Advice on headphones

My New MX5 has volume control and I'm finding that I have to turn the volume to MAX. to get my volume /threshold on my headphones to work correctly. The headphones are not defective. I tried a cheap pair of everyday headphones I use for my MP3 and they seemed to work better because I did all the sound adjustments through the machine. My question is has anyone had this issue? I just don't feel comfortable Maxing out the volume on the machine.

I just noticed Whites makes StarLite headphones they look comfy, light and don't have any volume control so all adjustments will be made via the detector, anyone use these or have advice on these?

Go Wireless, use any headphones plugged into the receiver you like and the default output of the MD as the transmitter has a volume control.

I use Grey Ghost Originals, It seems like if I don't put the volume in just the right setting on my headphones my Threshold gets too low. If I put the volume on my MX5 too low say the preset and turn my headphones up to max I get no sound. Could it actually be my headphones? And Yes Harold that is my Cat. His name is Petey and he was seized from an abusive home and spent 7 months in the shelter until my husband surprised me by rescuing him and bringing him home as a surprise after our beloved cat of 14 years died of Cancer.

Awwwww!

It is a sad story but with a happy ending. He is the most playful, lovable and gentle little guy. I can't help but think he is showing his gratitude for giving him a second chance. I find it amazing how animals can be put in such horrible situations yet bounce back with nothing but love for us humans. If we could only do the same our world would be very much different than it is today.

I have only used the MX5 3 times so maybe I should experiment a bit more with the volume on the machine and on my headphones.Im sure each brand and model have differences. I used to have a pair of Jolly Rodgers that I used for 7 years before selling them and upgrading to the Grey Ghost. I do notice a difference and I miss the jolly Rodgers. I may get another pair and sell the others.

Most people that has a detector with a volume control max out the volume on the detector and adjust it to a comfortable level with the headphone's volume control. Do you have another detector that you could try your headphones on to see if they are ok. I repair headphones (it is a hobby of mine) and would be happy to check your Grey Ghost phones out @ no charge other than the return shipping.

If maxing out the volume on the detector is a common practice with volume control headphones then they are fine. That is how I get them to work properly. I was concerned that I should not have to max the detector volume out but if thats the way to do it then Ill keep using the Grey Ghosts. Thanks for the help everyone…. See you at the July hunt Frank!:twodetecting:

If maxing out the volume on something results in distortion, then back off the setting. If it sounds good then don't worry.

I have a pair of the starlights, there ok but I wish some of these big HP manufacturers would make a quality pair of light weight HP's.
The star lights have a cheezy coiled cord that is stretched to the max on my MX5, I use em in hot weather and my main Hp's are Gray ghost yellow nugget busters.
Otherwise they get the job done!

I just got a pair 0f Whites Pro-Star head phones and have used them two times, they are the best phones I have ever used. They fit over my ears with my hearing aids in and don,t pinch my ears. they have grate sound. Will work with about all detectors, and have a life time warranty. They are worth every penny I paid. I will never get anything else.
