I got skunked the other day at the local HS. The ground was pretty hard to dig and the field was littered with junk. I would get three or more hits in one sweep and the mxt was going crazy reporting all kinds of targets from foil to ...
Pin pointing was also a problem as I didn't know what it was locking to. So, I think it is time to acquire a smaller than stock coil. So far, the places I've hunted are pretty mild ground (60s). My question is: What kind of coil would you recommend for coin and jewelry? Should I get the white's 5.3 loop, or something else? Your thoughts are appreciated.

Rudy, at a very trashy site as you describe a larger coil does have an "identity problem" when several targets are under the coil simultaneously. You are wise to get a smaller coil. Either the 5.3 or the 6x4 Mini DD would work fine. When it comes to target separation the 6x4 is the (slightly) better of the two. HH Jim

The 4 X 6 Shooter Eclipse is an excellent coil. Great target separation and suprising depth for a smaller coil.

Thanks for the advise Jim and Digger.
Jim, is the 6x4 Mini DD you refer to the same as what white's calls the "Shooter DD 3x6 Loop" , or is it a different coil?

That the EXcelerator 5 inch DD coil for the MXT / DFX is also a good one for separating trash from treasure. I have used them both and enjoyed good results with each. I honestly think the 5 inch EXcelerator goes a bit deeper than the Shooter Eclipse here in my soil. But the oval shaped Shooter makes me feel like I am covering more ground than with a round coil. I know. I know. It is all in my head. Either coil should help improve your treasure vs trash ratio. Good Luck and HH.

i was in a elgin illonois park with my brother in law saturday i was using the whites 4x6 mini shooter all day (about 5 hours)my total coins for the day was 160... no silver but the mini shooter runs smooth and could push it into the plus gain with no problem i was hitting coins at 5-7 inches with no problem this coil is great in trashy parks.

Hey Rudy -
I just bought an MXT and am having the same experience in high trash areas. Did you decide on which loop you'll get? Do you know where you'll get it?
Sure thank everyone for all their comments.

Contact Jim McCulloch. He'll give you good advice, and has been a White's dealer for a long long time. Good guy to deal with too.
Good hunting,
Otto...

Hi Bob,
From what I've gotten, it looks like the Eclipse DD Shooter is the way to go, with a close second being the 5.3" loop. I bought my mxt from Jim McCulloch and was happy with the transaction (he posted a reply on this thread so you can look up his email address from his reply), so I can recommend him. Hope this helps.
