Advice needed on Coinstrike..

This is my second coinstrike, I bought one back when they first came out and had to give up on it..I know this is a very good detector that takes a lot of time to learn anway I have a two part question and any advice is greatly appreciated.. first this is with GB done correctly etc. your swinging the coil left to right you get a high tone with postive numbers but on the back swing it may be a lower tone with postive numbers or no tone at all then turn 90 degrees and get no tone at all( I think this is why I sold the first C$) this is with nothing on tracking, salt etc.I have tried the sens, at 5,6 and 7 threshold -10,-15 and-20 using different settings with all three.could the ground being so dry be causing the problem? second part why is it that when I use the settings threshold-15 to 0 and sens.5,6,or 7 I have a good pinpoint tone but if I use the settings -15 to -25 it sounds like a bad connection with a wavering clicking or poping sound I did notice that it only made this sound with small objects (coin size) does the AM/pinpoint and threshold work together somehow..thanks in advance joseph
