Advice needed: Editing & Printing.

Using Photo Shop Elements 2 for editing.

I manage to get good acceptable levels of editing, and color on the monitor, but I can never get what I see on the screen to translate to the printed image.

No matter what I do playing around with the settings for the printer, it never matches the screen shot. It doesn

The first thing you need to do is to calibrate your monitor.

Here's a bunch of good information:

What you see on the screen should match what you print. But not all printers are color matching....they come close but not exact. Another problem is you must be completely off line before you alter your photo and then go to print it. If you are Broadband try disconnecting from your cable sometimes that interferes with the color. I have a Canon S9000, which is a very large printer that is color matching for print reproductions and sometimes I do run into a problem where the color does not match when I am on line.
Another problem is the quality of the paper you are using. If it is something you really like, use only high quality Kodak paper. It prints the best of them all. Store brand and HP paper does not always print well. Your inks also could be the problem, use only the brand recommended for your printer, store brands are not always good quality.

This done with software from HP.
Pretty easy fix once you have the software.

and big thank you to John in Fl. who went out of his way for me.

I went to look for new drivers for the printer, but later thought that was like throwing my good time, and everyone eles's, to the wind. Discovered printer needed other changes that I had overlooked.

Time to look at new printer. We will do that problem first, and go from there. Now I need to go do a little research, and find a good printer.

Again I thank you all for the help.

I went with a Canon unit. Haven't set it up yet, but I will in the next couple of days.

At least with the Canon printer it has a better software program to control the print. The HP's software left a lot to be desired.
