Hi guys. We are planning a family holiday to LA, san diego, las vegas. Arriving Jan 19th. For three weeks. Am thinking to upgrade my machines so as to have a new warranty period (as MDs here in NZ are fairly expensive)...I will probably pickup a new ATX and CTX. Are there any dealers you guys can suggest in those areas that can help out? I promise I won't hit your beaches during my trip!!!!

Hi dmnz,

If you plan on purchasing a new ATX & CTX while out here in SoCal, I would recommend to purchase online from a Find's Treasure Forums supporting vendor, or other treasure site supporting vendor that is located out of state.

The reasons are simple ... to save cash, lots of cash. California's sales tax is 9% if you purchase from a CA dealer. Nevada's sales tax is not much better (about 8%). Plus, most online dealers offer free shipping, lower cost, you won't pay sales tax, and you can negotiate price (about $100.00 off the ATX price) and have them to throw in freebies, especially since you are purchasing two detectors. You should be able to have at least $200.00 in free stuff thrown in. Stuff like Sand Scoops, Pro-Pointer, Coil Covers, or whatever you can negotiate with them. Bart at Big Boys Hobbies is a good place to get a great price with lots of freebies thrown in and he will ship the same day you place your order (bigboyshobbies.net). I believe he is in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and shipping takes about two days to California.

If you are staying somewhere for at least a few days, have the detectors shipped to the Hotel or wherever you are staying.

That's what I would do :)

Find online dealers that carry both Garrett and Minelab, try to get a contact name, and start sending emails to those dealers NOW. If you need a few dealer names to write to, just let me know. Tell them you want to buy the ATX & CTX together and what is the best price they will give you on the set. You can start with a email to Bart at Big Boys Hobbies (bigboyshobbies.net).

You should be able to negotiate the ATX down from $2120.75, to $2000.00, and the CTX down from $2499.00, to around $2350.00 or more off.

Once they give you a price that sounds good to you, ask them what they can throw in to sweeten the deal.

When you strike a deal with a dealer, you can tell them your plan, where and when to have them shipped, and your detectors could be waiting for you at your location in SoCal when you arrive.

Let us know what kind of deal you put together, so we can see if you are as good with negotiations as you are at finding gold :)

p.s. If you could find as much gold on a CA Beach, as you find on a NZ Beach, I will eat my ATX, so go for it!! :)
