Advice for GT Settings

I love my GT, and have had it about 9 months now. Its great relic hunting, and I clean up at the park on clad. I have always ran it per the quick start guide. Now comes the time where I am ready to start changing the settings. Since I have used the GT I have pulled out tons of bottle caps and pull tabs, always telling myself that it could be gold. I have yet to find anything gold with it. So this is where I am asking advice. What settings would increase my chance of finding gold? I would like to be able to hit a park and scan it first for gold and then change the settings and go back over for the coins. I have also heard running in band 2 helps is this true? I have been using band 1. Any advice or tips and tricks to finding gold would be much appreciated.
Thanks
Dawn

I find the biggest indicator that a target is gold is the way the tone enters and leaves. Pulltabs give a mixed signal of high and lows as the GT tries to read the different metals, while gold gives a more clean even signal. Both have the same basic starting tone but pulltabs at least to me give a more high low mix and gold stays even. As far as the bands I use 1 most of the time and only switch if I'm getting interference. If you don't have it I would suggest cjc's book on the GT, very good read well worth the money. Oh and for settings I use 11 o clock sens, 0 disc, 0 notch. If in the water then about 1 or 2 sens same disc and notch.
