Advice for a first detector

My uncle wants to buy his 1st detector. I am strongly recommending a Tesoro. I have the Vaq and impressed with the depth I have found some coins at. I dont know if he is willing to pay that much for his first. He has permission to hunt one of the oldest sites in the county, so depth is important. How does the Compadre with 8 inch coil, Silver umax , and Cibloa do depth wise.

I would recommend the Silver uMax as long as your ground isnt too mineralized. I just posted a video of the Silver uMax easily hitting a silver dime at almost 8 inches in mild soil (six inches of dirt, two of air). Its easy to use and unlike the Compadre, you can switch out coils. Im no expert on Tesoro detectors yet, but ive put in some time with three of them and am quite impressed with the Silver. Either way, good luck, you cant go wrong with a Tesoro!

I will second the Silver. Is my first new detector since I got back into metal detecting. It is easy to use and is a lot of bang for the buck! I don't have one complaint about it. The Cibola will probably have slightly more depth and should also be considered. If he can afford at present is the Silver, don't worry it will pay for it's self quickly.

but the coins may not be deep , and the ground may not be that mineralized, the silver umax is a good start , and has a high resale value if he likes hunting and wants to upgrade,

Like Kaolinwasher stated if the ground is mineralized he would be better with ground balance. Check out the Video that mojotrout just posted on the Silver finding a dime at 8". In mild soil it is quite capable. If you do have mineralized soil the Vaq. with ground balance would be a better choice.

Im in North missouri. The ground , I dont think, is heavily mineralized. Not like mid missouri with all its iron anyhow. How does one know?
