Adventures in doorknocking...(rolling eyes)

Weather broke today so the plan was to grab tector and head down the road to a small Burg about 37mi from the house and try and line up some privates to hunt next week? I ended up knocking on 5 doors today. First house is old and on several lots and looks good, so I knock and get the go ahead, no problem! He says he'd rather he be there when I hunt so I can't return during the week and it's kinda now or never? I tell him I have to knock on a few more then I'll return to start. So I go down the block and hit another NICE old home on BIG corner lot and the gal is nice but reluctant so we bs a little and she says "Let me talk to my husband", I give her my card with # etc. in case she changes her mind? Ask her if I can return some other date to ask again....she says "that'd be fine"....I joke a little and tell her I'll wear you guys down and we laugh. So that is a long shot maybe..... Next house is old and run down and the guy is "off" a little but we talk and he agrees to my terms ( they can have anything except the old coins) and I tell him I gotta go back and do the other place but might return today? Cool....2 places to hunt so I go back to first place and get started.....2 hrs later I determine place is a bust although I did find 2 wheaties and an old pocket watch. Place hadn't been mowed and coins seemed to be out of reach so I wrote it off...done! Go back to the 3rd house with the weirdo guy and tell him I can get started? He then says (keep in mind he agreed to my terms already) "Let me know when you find a coin and don't start diggin until I come out". I'm thinking "here we go again...another one that wants to follow you from hole to hole" No problem right? Well I tell him you'd better come out now then because I'll be digging coins right out of the gate. He goes in and puts more clothes/shoes on and I'm waiting on him with my first target PP'ed and ready to be dug! He comes out and I pop a '61 memorial and give it to him. Couple more swings and I get a knickel signal and with him over my shoulder I pop a '42 war knickel and say to him "that's a good one!" I don't tell him they are 35% silver. He REALLY likes this coin...I can see it in his eyes. I put the '42 in my coin jug and then he says "Next coin is mine" then next is yours etc. I'm half excited as this place gave me 2 good indicator coins right out of the gate where the last 2 hrs was a bust? I'm thinking redemption here but NOW this guy wants to change the rules on me? I tell him "It's not gonna work that way for me and I'll be leaving...thanks" So I leave the idiot and figure I'll find another door and knock. House #4 is a flat out "NO" and "My sister has a metal detector"...(I'm thinkin ...yeah and I have a bone in my leg too) so I thank her and look for another door. I spy a couple sitting out on their hand hewn old log home enjoying the weather and stop and ask? No Problem...have at er!!!!! Was running out of time but gave about 45min. in front yard....no deeper targets but dug about 15 new coins and gave them all to the kids. I did get a couple "teasers" from the '60's and I'll return this week to work the place some more but my gut tells me it's been hunted before but who knows what's out back, etc...we'll see?

So basically I hit 5 houses...got 3 yes, 1 no, one long shot maybe. The only house that seemed promising right out of the gate was of course the one with the guy changing the rules where I dug 2 coins and left......

Bunch of bs for 2 wheats and a war knickel but I'm actually kinda laughing about the whole doorknock scenerio today and maybe next time I'll get a good one without the drama?????......lol

Hey oneguy, i enjoyed reading that! All in all not bad, only one flat out NO.
The NO's are the worse. Reminds me of my hi-school days asking girls out! :ranting: There was always another one who said YES!

What we need now is G4ever to do a similar report so we can get his door knocking secrets.

I already posted how G4E "most likely" scores his privates...remember?????? lmao!

After today i think if I can just take it all in stride and laugh off some of the drama, idiots, rejections, etc. and just DO IT then it 'll pay off? I've had pretty good luck overall with privates (when I get them) as far as silver goes? About every 3rd house seems to produce pretty good....?????

Nice Read Oneguy, Persistence will and does Payoff! Keep those story's coming!!

I went door knocking today, only got one NO in 9 hours of hunting, we had several not home, but for all that answered only one NO, rest all yeses. No one followed us around, no one asked for any of our finds.......had a good day, got 4 silver, an indian, a token, wheats and lots of clad

Oh for for those who have not been to my site, he is the lingo I use EVERYTIME to get permission

Most times I just get in my car, drive down the road looking for an old house that catches my eye. When I see one, I stop and walk to the door. I knock on the door, and here is EXACTLY what I say EVERYTIME: Hello, my name is Terry and my buddy and I have a hobby of metal detecting. We enjoy looking around older homes like yours for old coins, tokens, buttons, relics and just about anything old and interesting. Would you mind if we detected your yard?
That is it! I keep it short and simple, and say the EXACT thing everytime.

Thanks for posting that G4ever. :super:

I'm a dyed-in-the-wool park hunter. Problem is all and i mean all the old parks at least within a couple hrs. of around here have been pounded to he11. Ain't no easy oldies anymore in those parks and the clad is scarce too. There's still some oldies that have been walked over but they're far and few between.
Some of the newer parks are still loaded with clad but clad hunting doesn't do it for me anymore.

My last door knocking adventure.
I had a great lead on some private acreage that was once a County Fairgrounds for a few years around the turn of the Century. Never been hunted far as i know.
No crops on it, just fields, tree groves and kept mowed every now and then. Could even vaguely see the outline of the race track right where it was supposed to be.

Found the owner who lived in the city, knocked on the door and got a blatant loud harsh 'no doubt about it'....
NO, WE DON'T WANT NO ONE ON THAT PROPERTY

Could of had something to do with my door knock interrupting their dinner? Naah! :heh:
