Adv. mode vs Coins

I'm a novice with the XS. Now that that's out of the way....
I made an Advanced Learn program by starting with all reject, then accept silver coins, 3 cent piece, large cents, coppers, V nickel, war nickel, gold eagle etc which are all local finds. XS jumps all over those coins anywhere near the coil. Just for kicks I accepted all coins (select mode) and rejected all else which of course results in a white 'slash' across the smartfind screen. The XS then fails to respond to ANY of the noted coins. What have I done?

Some of the "junk" discrimination screens block out the good stuff.Note how the screen changes when you select "non-ferous coins" then place another discrimination screen on top of that one.

I too am a novice(6 months) ,,The first time I tried to build a custom x out pulltab screen I had problems too. When I called the wunnerful folks in vegas they advised turn the sens down when screening as you may be accepting/rejecting microwaves and all other sourcesdue to the ability of the x////xs to see these thangs..Now I run in ironmask most of the time ,listen, look and always dig the outa place wierd stuff,,Mike and Jim will have better advice than I,,miles too an Iprobably forgot ten guys that know what they are doing,,,hh cs (use the small cursor orif you repeat till nullout the island will be huge and disjointed)

By X'ing out jewelry, pull tab, and screw cap in the Select screen you are basically rejecting out all the US coins. Rejecting jewelry alone will reject most of the US coins.

From my dealer was hit Noise Cancel to get a clear channel. Then lower you sensitivity down to "1". When you are teaching the Explorer to Accept or reject targets, start way back from the coil and then move inwards toward the center til you hear it beep. This will give you more of a constant Crosshair and sound. If you try to go back and forth across the coil it will be erratic and make blips all over the screen. The dealer actually gave me a paper with these instructions on it, and it was from a Dealer newsletter. Hope that helps some.

Revisited plan last evening with sens down to 5 and noise cancelled. Much better!!! Thanks.
