ADS III

Well I have been taking the ADS III out and about and I had a friend that bought a MP3 Machine??? And we compete as to who find the most but mostly I find stuff and have him Identify it. So far I have a little less than a dollar in change and enough pull tabs to make a jump rope. I really don't have a identify function to the ADS and I was wondering if anyone Had experience with such an old machine I think I have shorted myself a lot of fun by getting such an old machine. just looking for words of wisdom I had one person I was talking to but I lost the email. anything will bring much joy and admiration.

If you are getting so many pulltabs the discrimination is too low.Get a collection of different targets and learn where the settings have to be to reject different trash items.Do this at home before you go to the field.Your manual should explain this;if you don`t have one get in touch with Garrett.I wondered what went with the E-mails!I will send you some private messages on this forum if you follow it.

Check losttreasure.com to see if there is an old dfield test on that one. In its day it was quite a machine.

I used the ADSIII quite a bit several years ago. It was and probably still is a very good machine.Joe is right, just set the disc. a little higher and knock out pulltabs but you will also loose nickles. If you use it long enough you should be able to tell coins by the sound you get. I was just getting to know the detector when i sold it and got the Grand Master when it came out. Totally differant type of sound.
Good Luck

I, still, have an old ADS 3 that I keep for a backup detector. Back when I used it a lot, I didn't see any detector that would match the depth in deep sandy beaches for finding rings and coins using 10" & 12" coils to get extreme depth. I amazed other detectorists on the beaches who were using Whites, etc. Also, the automatic mode is great for a stable threshhold. Also, one secret is proper ground balance. As previous posters have said, turn up your discrimination a bit to rule out junk. Do some testimg with various trash to determine where to set the discriminate control. Happy hunting.
