adding extra battery to nimh pack

Hi Guys,

I did enquire on this forum quite a while a go about adding a extra battery to the nimh pack. I cant remember who it was that had the diagram for the conversion. Hope some one can help so i can add the extra power.

Really this should be on the mod forum but things are slow.

You can't do the mod to the NIMH pack because the cells are spot welded and don't have all the needed clips. It can be done to the alkaline pack you have. I originally built one for my MXT and it still is going today.

My first pack added a 9th battery and they were taken out and charged on a separate charger. I used 2500 mah batteries. Later I changed the pack so it could be charged on the Whites charger. I now have the low discharge NIMH batteries in the pack. It charges to 12.4V and after hours of hunting it usually is still at 11.3V.

Use these two posts.

You'll not get greater performance by increasing the voltage via an extra battery in series with the pack. Detectors use voltage regulators to only allow a set lower voltage to reach the electronics. So the only virtue to adding another battery in series is to keep the voltage higher for longer run times. On the other hand, that can easily be achieved (and in some respects is better) by just using higher capacity nimhs. 2500ma or higher should give you longer run times then an off the shelf non-rechargeable store bought battery.

If you have the Whites rechargeable set that means 2 different chargers are needed. Also you have to take the batteries in and out.

I never advocated building a battery pack. For most people the Whites packs are enough. And we know you can't add an extra battery to a Minelab.

Hi Guys,

We all know that adding another battery wont alter the performance of the detector i need it to give me longer lasting qualities. Thanks to all for replying.
