Adding a PP Toggle Switch to Ex/Cal

Hello,Everybody
I am living in Panama,in the Highlands.I have an old Blue Tube Excalibur 1000.It has served me well and good. Can I ask you Guys about putting a PP Toggle Switch of some kind on to my Hip-Mount.I've felt that PP Switch get wierd over Time(like turning a full turn or so,which I don't think is normal Right?I thought of putting it on the Tube itself,if it's small enough, for the Space between the PP Pot and the end of the Tube.I don't use it for Underwater Detecting anymore,so it does'nt have to be Water tight,That PP gets a lot of use.Is there a certain Value of Switch that I need? I'm pretty Basic with Electronics and such...I would guess the sealed, rubbber capt one would bee ideal.
Doing anything here in Panama turns into a Major Project.(finding Electronics/Parts) I don't use the Mails much, and Shipping is rather strange, since we don't have an Home Address System,we go by Landmarks Ha ha...My Address is"300 Meters S.W. of the Wagon Wheel Bar! Nueva Suiza,Volcan,Chiriqui Province,Panama".Tell that to the FED EX Man!!! Thanks for any Help..Ken

Search OBN/Old Beachnut posts on various forums and youtube. He has a series of vids that are outstanding on how to do it yourself.
He'll probably weigh in here later or you can PM him if he doesn't or someone come up with the links.

Yes a IP 67 or 68 switch would be the best. As far as putting it on the pod I would rather drill a small hole in the endcap which can be replace easier then the Pod....Drill the hole in the endcap and run the wire to the switch on the handle.. easier to use, gauge of wire is no big deal so you could use speaker wire. Just make sure to seal all with epoxy and test slowly before a full work out. A little more work but safer I believe...

Hello, and thank you very much for the Reply.
This Ex/cal has been all around the World.I also have an ExplorerXS,it's been around too.My funnest times would be in front of those 5 Star Hotels in the Dominican Republic, did real well. I lived there for around a Year or so.Hated the Culture. After the Headphones on the Ex/Cal started rotting away,I adapted it over to a Waist/Hip Mount (I'm 71) with some Grey Ghosts.I have a little extra Money now,so I'm thinking to put that Toggle Switch on the Main Housing,to eleminate the extra Wire going to the Handle/Shaft.,and sometime soon sending it in to Kelly Co. for a complete re-hab,maybe Epoxy the Hole I drill in the Housing or something...I've watched your Videos, and it seems as though that Pot for the Disc/Pinpoint is still used in the Circuit, even though you clip that one Yellow Wire, the Pot still has other Functions in the Circuitry.Right???
enough for now,and thanks again.Ken

What ever happened to Doc,and his Swingy Thingy ?

You know I have never taken it out of the circuit to check but I am guessing since it is connected at 5 places on the board it is necessary. And not sure with Doc and his swing thing but he is still in business ..Good Luck and post a few pictures once you are finished...

KinTN,Thanks.Like you said,Old Beechnut contributed to the Mix. Ken.
