I was thinking of ways to locate the internal GB pot, and thought that if there was a small change in the GB, I wold be able to notice it. I used a piece of ferrite rod, and found the unit is NEG when the ferrite rod is approacing the coil.
I used an original Tesoro 50K pot with micro-alligator leads attached. I hooked the clips to the wiper and one side of each pot, and turned on the unit to see if there was a change. I had to do it to both sides of each pot. 3rd time is a charm. It turned out to be the most difficult location for a pot.
I used a small soldering iron, and a suction bulb to remove the tiny trim pot.
The location of the toggle switch was also a little problem. I had to make the hole a little oblong, and also had to trim the display ckt board to make the pot fit correctly. I only had to remove about 1.4 to 1.5mm of the board.
When everything was said and done, I still had a 50% chance of getting the leads backwards on the pot. As long as the wiper lead is in the center, no problem.
Put everything back, and tested again with the ferrite rod. Now I am able to Gb to the ferrite rod, and now my all metal mode is better in my opinion. I don't think it has any affect in disc mode at this point.
One word of caution....Be sure to remove the batteries when soldering and stuff. It's safer that way.
I will also include a pic of the finished job. The pot that was installed is a 3 3/4 turn pot.
