Add an extra battery to your White's battery pack...

if you are interested, here's a step by step picture post of how to add a 9th battery to your XLT/MXT battery pack. It's in German with self explanatory pictures. HH, Mike

Those are cool pics but what good is that? Wouldnt that harm the electronics? and/or void the warranty?

Void the warranty, probably. Harm the electronics, I would say definitely not as it raises the voltage to just under 13 volts. The operating voltage on the XLT/MXT is something like 9-14 volts, it's on the startup screen when you turn it on, just can't remember exactly. 8 brand new duracells (dry cells non rechargeable) would put close to 13 volts through the electronics. Duracells last longer because the output is a bit more than the 1.5 volts advertised. If you have a meter, measure the batteries next time you open a pack or the total voltage when inserted into the battery pack. It would be a hassle to rebuild and the result is just a little longer detecting time. I just rebuilt my rechargeable battery pack a month or so ago, saved several $$$ doing it but I'm an Electronics Technician, it's easy for me. HH, Mike

This would work great for the nimh rechargeables (1.2v) and the voltage would be 10.8v well under the 12v of 8 alklines. My MXT regulates the voltage to 8v which is the working volyage of the detector. I won't do but I acn't see why it wouln't work. Rob

I am trying to find this on the link but it is no longer available. Does any one have access to the instructions for adding the extra battery in German?

I added four batteries to my idx, But I also switched out the transistors and am runing three different circuits each with a different regulator.
I visited and "expert" featured on "Treasure hunting America", the extra battery was part of his setup.
PLEASE VOID YOUR WARANTY.

I've read several posts on different forums about adding an EXTRA battery to a battery pack. However, each of these referred to RECHARGEABLE batteries (1.2 volts). The idea is to bring the total voltage up to more closely match the voltage of the factory rechargeable pak and/or the alkaline, 8 battery pak. Personally, I've never felt the need for rechargeables as I get a good long life out of name brand alkalines and always use headphones which extends battery time. That said, if batteries become an issue for me, I'll be happy because it means I'm doing a LOT of detecting.
