Actual side by side photo comparison between the Sony and Nikon digital cameras...................

Kelley (Texas)

New member
One photo was taken with the Nikon Coolpix 5700 and the other with the new Sony DSC-H1 digital camera. Both were taken in AUTO MODE, with built in flash, taken indoors. The old toy fire truck is sitting in a white painted bookcase. Can you guess which Photo was taken with the Nikon or Sony digital camera? Please have a great day! Kelley (Texas) :)

Top photo is the Sony, bottom photo is the Nikon. I cheated, I looked at the XIF data. :D Ok, now on to the important stuff. First, you need to dust a bit more often. Your little firetruck has cobwebs on it. Next, I like the bottom photo just slightly better. It has a little warmer color and seems to be slightly sharper. I assume that you shot this hand held so the 1/125 vs 1/60 shutter speed may account for the better sharpness with the Nikon. Also, the 10mm vs 18.8mm focal length give a DOF advantage to the Nikon. But all in all the two photos are not that far apart. I had to open them up in Photoshop to see any difference at all.

Nah, just kidding Kelley. I have several photo editing programs that let me look at the XIF data that is embedded in most digital photos. Below is a screen capture on your firetruck from a program I use that is called BreezeBrowser. It has all the XIF data and the histogram. This information is extremely helpful when processing photos or trying to figure out how to make them better on the next attempt.

What are you using to edit your photos?

You mentioned the truck was on a white background. The background doesn't look very white on my monitore. I played with it a bit and it improved a lot. try to lighten up your pic a bit......

Good luck with your new toy!!

This is a photo edit program that my Son put on my computer for me. I is just a basic, easy to use photo program, can't do much with it. Please have a great day! Kelley (Texas) :)

Sony top, Nikon bottom. Nikon primary colors tend to be a bit more intense in my view (I own a Nikon Coolpix 4500), but that's O.K. by me. I like taking pics of small finds (rings, coins, etc.), flowers and bugs, and I think the Nikon macro is outstanding.
Just mho
fod:)
