acquiring a 505

Hey folks. this is the dixiedigger57 from middle Ga, USA. I am a Tesoro fan and user, HOWEVER, I am game to try something new. I have a 505 with the 8 inch coil awaiting pickup. not new but looks really unused. This will be my first venture with tone ID and visual target and depth indicators. I am used to beep and dig. My town is iron and trashy, aluminum galore from alcohol bottle caps and pull tabs, but it is also rich in history from colonial times. Urbanites, low income, have trashed up good sites, but renovation has yielded great finds on scraped lots. I will be asking a lot of questions. I have dug off and on for ten yrs, have found gold rings and such in freshwater lakes, even done old dump sites with turn on and go detector. This will be advanced technology as far as the features for me, and at a bargain of a price so i jumped. There is another question-- i saw a discovery i believe it was, with a salt water mode button at a pawn shop, but when i was able to get back, it was gone. i believe it was a 63-3012 or 3015, 3013? not sure, but does anyone know? it was definitely a BH for radio shack. I really wanted a beach machine for occasional trip. any one know or have one with a salt mode? i look forward in the next couple of weeks to posting finds carey the dixiedigger57

'Urbanites, low income, have trashed up good sites'.......lol..............sounds exactly like my town in Idaho:) Just no way around that trash...no matter what the machine..........just think 'creative'..............which it sounds like your doing already.......scraped areas...........do parking strips.........usually legal.......city property......but do check with the city if its okay to do them......they are trashy........but can produce some real keepers.........along with the occasional irate homeowner who insist it's they're property.......even when you calmly explain it's city property.........I just say.........'if it upsets you, I'll move along'....Good Luck.

i think all low income areas are getting that way. i dont care how poor you are, you can use a trash can. why make life more miserable. a good trick we use for rennovation lots is the original maps from 1900 fire company that shows wells and such they have to consider when building something. have really paid off about 80% of time, not bad average. local library has them . dug great bottles and detected out dirt doing that. just going to try the new unit soon, and see if i like ID and tone. its hard to beat my old tesoros, but i got this 505 at a bargain with the one coil only, but hey, 75 bucks, its worth a shot when 800 is out of the question.

Agree with the trash and wish people would use Trash Cans !! and also with the old maps from the library or city tax assessors office.

A family member, now gone, who was a young married wife and poor, during the Great Depression...........used to say........'just because your poor, doesn't mean you have to have poor ways'. I call that Wisdom..........that this country once posessed.

That's exactly right TerraDigger, Now a days half the population expects things to just be given to them and for instant respect. this is what happens when people come to rely on the Government for everything. LA riots and Katrina were prime examples. then turn and look at the folks in Japan. no civil unrest and everyone helping their neighbors.

Sorry I'll get off the soapbox now.

I also use Tesoros. Was looking at the Teknetics Delta and then old memories flashed in my mind and I grabbed a Tracker IV for $99 at Academy and I'm having a blast.

got my 505! tried it out a little in place i knew was just a little clad. neat machine, although i am used to another brand of beep and dig, no meter, no tones. time will tell. seems to be fine machine. after surgery next week and 5 or so wks recovery, will be testing it or something out in stir crazy frenzy! someone find something and post it for me to see after the 1st!

well, in a surgery recoup mode, things went well, better than predicted, God is Great! been reading my manual. this is an advanced machine for me. I have had several offers to buy from $80 to $150 bucks. everyone knows it cost me 75 plus tax. that was a fluke at pawn shop. the machine was put up for another guy who works on jewelery fo the owner. the only reason he took it in pawn was for him, and that guy only uses a certain brand and high end units. he did not want it. i was right place at right time. i did mention i would trade the machine for a tesoro simple machine, a whites classic or a fisher x series. would love old beach machine. just a thought and open minded. the machine seems to work fine. again would love something, even if old, like a compass judge 2 or something to handle wet salt. stingray, unit with the salt mode button by same company, but am satisfied with this unit so far. food for thought if anyone is game. unit has the 8 in coil. i think they retail just the unit without package 250- 300 or so, shipping etcc... varies. anyone interested send me a e-mail. be a couple weeks before i am mobile. serious only. not really wanting to sell, would rather trade.
