Planning a trip to the Acores islands in July. Anyone ever tried water detecting over there? I heard you need all sorts of permits, and it's a nightmare to get them.Any input will be much appreciated. Thanks.

You heard correct ! Don't think they would give you a permit even if you applied for one,
I read somewhere that they only give them out to archaeologist only but it might be worth
trying if you are going to hunt the beach only. Just from my memory only !

As detecting on mainland Portugal is banned completely(including beaches) i would imagine on the islands too, be carefull

Hi undertoe. I live in Portugal Algarve,Before 1999 no problem. After this year the political body
make a law of interdiction the metal detecting. The police take out the equipment and to be
fined.
