Ace250 ground balance question.

I'll be getting the Ace as spring gets a little closer. I am curious if the preset ground balance is much of an issue.
I hunt mostly at the park, but wonder if it will be ok at the Lake Mi. beach. In my 8 years of limited detecting, this
forum has been my greatest find! I am so excited to be stepping up to a Garrett.
Thanks, Dan

If it starts giving any issues, drive the sensitivity down. I don't know about beach hunting - but maybe another is the coil height above ground.

Yeah it will work great in most sand areas unless black sand is present. I can't remember but I don't think there is any black sand around the Great Lakes.

On dry sand it will be fine. On wet sand, set the sensitivity to 5 bars and notch out the first 3 notches. You will lose about half your depth, but the Ace should still run fine. I came across some of what I assume was black sand a couple of months back, on some sandy ground next to a beach, it even had quartz in the mix, and with the Ace ran fine. Set up as described, it ran better than my Explorer on this ground. The Explorer handled the wet stuff a lot better though.
Good luck with the hobby. You will be cutting your teeth on an ideal first machine. It will take a bit of patients at first though, as you will be learning a new skill.

There is black sand in streaks at Datona Beach. In the wet it can affect the Ace, but in the dry I ran the sensitivity at full with no problem.

Yeah it depends on the concentration. A lot will drive a detector with no GB nuts. That's one reason I had Garrett send me a Scorpion as we have quite a few black sand river beaches here.
