ACE 350 hunting in pinpoint mode

Here is a quick tip for ACE 350 (and probably 250 users)

If your swinging in a trashy area - and your getting fed up with all the boop-beep-ding noises. Its doing this because you are hitting multiple targets.

Try this::

Hit the pinpoint button and swing again ...slowly... you will hear all the separate targets you are hitting as you swing(multiple strong-medium tones)
Now.. isolate one of the targets by taking short swings (probably a 1-3 inches) and listen for the strongest sound while swinging- once the target is isolated , take your finger off the pinpoint button and swing
over that target again. You will now hear whatever the discrimination circuit says its its..boop(iron region), beep(nickel-pulltab-gold region) or ding (penny-dime-qtr-silver region).

You now have a way to isolate each item. You might also try hunting with the pinpoint button pressed in all the time until you get a good signal - release the pinpoint button - swing and look at the display(or listen to the sound) to determine what the target is. Hunting with the pinpoint button pressed in gives you a good feel for how many targets you have, how deep they are, and can help you easily isolate what you hearing - as opposed to multiple beeps and boops.

I think this is kind of poor man's version of proportional audio hunting. I am still new to all this and have never had anything but and ACE - but this technique has really worked for me. Its especially fun if you have a sniper coil.

Now if I can just find that elusive silver!!

I discovered that little trick myself recently...just wasn't smart enough to post it...thanks for doing so and HH

Good advice thanks! I usually hunt in zero mode in open fields around my area.
For coins , iron relics whatever I might dig up..
In the past few weeks I been trying closer to old barns and grain structures filled with old nails and staples very trashy
areas. I will try this method with my Ace 350 to try an isolate objects until I get the sniper coil. I did an air test with my machine with coins
And the ding bell( coins ) really stands out when fast sweeping searching an area..to stop pinpoint it and dig.
While air testing, I notice my 14k gold ring only gives a beep notice on air testing..same as the pull tabs on the Ace 350.
So being a relic hunter and coin shooter zero mode is the way for me....
I just have to learn to dig more of those dreaded (beep )signals for gold items or pull tabs !
Good luck...

I have a 350 as well...just need the snow to go away,

[size=medium]They are good detectors in my opinion...Im not into the displays numbers and stuff yet only had it for a few months now.
I.just want to swing a coil listen for the "Bing" tone pinpoint and dig...
I must say though....That Garret pro pointer is worth having....it makes short work of locating your target...It's been numerous times so far the dirt clumped object was right in my hand and I
COULD NOT TELL or see where or what I had untill the pin pointer located for me..I'll just have to find more Silver & Gold to use for purchasing my next model Garret maybe the AT pro
or Gold model.

Yep, it's a audio non motion mode when the pinpoint button is in. If course, you want to
make sure you are not detuned if using it that way. But it works pretty well. I've always
done that quite a bit with the 250.
I often use it when trying to figure size, or say I'm tracking a water pipe or sumtin..
With the non motion mode, you can follow it with a constant signal, get a better guess
on size, direction, etc.
It's basically the same as what some machines call "true all metal mode"..
Or at least if those are acting like I think they do in that mode.. More like an old
fashioned constant audio detector, rather than the new fangled motion mode chirps
which are firmware driven and more sporadic. The ACE machines seem to be fairly
fast responding to me though.. Mine seems fairly hard to outrun by using fast swings.
If anything, it goes a little deeper with the faster swings. But I usually swing it about
average, and just use the fast swings if I get an iffy target that's on the edge of being
detected. Sometimes bumping the swing up will bring it out better.

You can usually ID the separate targets when pinpointing. I'll pinpoint one, and when
I'm on it, I'll go back to ID mode, and give it a twitch.. It'll ID that particular target.
And the same with other close targets. Which can give an idea which might be junk or good.
Coins will almost always ID stable as a rock, over and over. Most rusty iron and other trash will
bounce all over the place, hitting on both the low iron, and the high conductivity rust at the
same time. Nails are bad about that..

Good tip.
I plan to get the 13inch excellerator coil for the Ace
from KellyCo for field hunting. That should give some added depth
on even deeper targets.

Thanks for the Tip I wish the pin point button was push on push off But you can't have everything lol Happy Hunting Y'all

Robert2300 let's us know how you like it & compares to the DD coil....
I hunt a lot of opened fields an areas and wonder how well that coil
does on depth performance.. I've had my eye on this coil, but I
wanted to get more familiar & consistent with pinpointing with the standard
coil & machine I have now.
Happy Hunting
