ACE 250

I'm a beginner and I made my first post last month and many people suggested I buy an ACE 250, which I did! It came 2 weeks ago and I've gone out hunting twice. The first time was only for an hour at my local park and all I found was foil, nails & beer tabs, but I still had fun. I found out from this forum that I had the sensitivity too high. So my 2nd trip to the park was 4 hours long and I found 3 quarters, 1 dime, 1 nickel, 10 pennies, a fishing lure, a kids ring, and alot of trash (foil, beer tabs, nails, etc), but it was alot of fun (but I was exhausted too!). I want to thank everyone for the suggestions, I think the ACE 250 is going to work out for me.

My question today is, I'm going to the beach early June and I want to know what settings I should use for:
Dry Sand - Sensitivity - ??
Wet Sand - Sensitivity - ??
Surf - Sensitivity - ??
Should I keep it in All Metal?
Should I use discriminations - if so - what?
I must admit, I really want to find a gold ring - so any suggestions on how to best set up my ACE would be much appreciated.

Stay in the dry sand. It has the most treasures in the summer time. Don't go in the surf. It is hard to metal detect and you don't want to get the control box wet. The dry sand is fun and all play. Easy digging and no problem for the Ace. Take along some kind of a scoop. It doesn't have to be fancy. Adj.the sensitivity so there is no false signals, because every location you MD the ground is different. Most beaches aren't that trashy. Use jewelry or all metal mode. Dig the foil and pull tabs, it could be gold. Enjoy the day with your family and notice where the crowds are. That is where you want to MD. MD when the people are leaving or first thing in the morning at sunrise. If you don't, others will beat you to the loot. I found out that people lose a lot of stuff at night.
Here is my list from MD'ing Daytona Beach if you really want to go in the wet sand.

Salt water tips on Daytona Beach for the Ace:

sensitivity..4-3 in wet sand
use all metal mode
PP is very vague, detune pp works good
Fast moving water makes it false..sen. 1...no good cure
swing level
You can hear and learn a false hit from a good hit
YOU CAN notch out below penny and eliminate most falsing and all gold
Pennies 4" and quarters at 6" in wet sand
Stay in the dry sand and you can beat them all(well, it seems like it)

Summer treasure comes from tourist. Winter treasure comes from the sea.

That's great advice Freddy,
and it came from a guy who really knows his machine.
Yep the yeller feller is the greatest in dry sand as you will find out.
I'd agree with John jewlry mode is just right and dig everything.
You can't get the goodies unless you dig the trash as well.
Good luck Freddy.

Always use the most sensitivity as possible but still stable (better depth) and the least amount of discrimination as possible. asking for specific setting for you id difficult to suggest, as it depends on the area. I always start at full sensitivity, and if it makes the ACE false too much, I back off one notch. if it continues to false too much, I back off another notch. In heavily littered areas, I sometimes just run my machine in coin mode. The bell tone usually alerts you to a good target. However, listen carefully to those pull tab signals. If the signal sounds soft and is the same in all 4 directions, dig it, as that is the sound of a gold ring and you just might get one. We all dig lots of junk during our hunts. We just don't post it, because it is ugly.

Yeah I was in a couple of spots ( soccer fields ) the other day with the 250 where if I bumped the sensitivity any higher than four it went nuts and beeped continually but our volcanic soil here can be a real bear. But it didn't effect the depth as I was pulling quarters and dimes at 6-8 inches.

I can't read this without replying. Try the relic mode for one day and see how you like it. NO nails, hairpins, small nails, paper clips, etc... But the detector will hit hard on coins and those close to iron will hit clearer and the big iron that usually makes the loud BONG! more often will hit with the softer low iron tone. And my depth seemed to increase even better than jewelry mode. I think it's AWSUMMM! It's about as close to the all metal mode as you can get.

Your ears are better than mine.
The sound of pull tabs sound all the same to me.
Not sure what SOFT sounds like.
