Ace 250

I'm a beginner and I made my first post last month and many of you suggested I buy an ACE 250, which I did! It came 2 weeks ago and I've gone out hunting twice. The first time was only for an hour at my local park and all I found was foil, nails & beer tabs, but I still had fun. I found out from this forum and the Garrett's forum that I had the sensitivity too high. So my 2nd trip to the park was 4 hours long and I found 3 quarters, 1 dime, 1 nickel, 10 pennies, a fishing lure, a kids ring, and alot of trash (foil, beer tabs, nails, etc), but it was alot of fun (but I was exhausted too!). I want to thank everyone for the suggestions, I think the ACE 250 is going to work out for me.

My question today is, I'm going to the beach early June and I want to know what settings I should use for:
Dry Sand - Sensitivity - ??
Wet Sand - Sensitivity - ??
Surf - Sensitivity - ??
Should I keep it in All Metal?
Should I use discriminations - if so - what?
I must admit, I really want to find a gold ring - so any suggestions on how to best set up my ACE would be much appreciated.

I have had my Ace 250 for just over 2 years.I have used mostly at Cocoa Beach,Florida.I have had very little success with it in the surf and wet sand,in any mode. However in the dry sand,I have found 6 gold and 6 silver rings, and a gold necklace this year, plus $133.00 dollars in clad.At the beach,I hunt in the jewelry mode and dig all nickle and pull-tab readings. It is,in my opinion,a great detector for the price.Best of luck beach hunting.

...in fresh water, I go with the standard jewelry mode and I set my sensitivity to just where it becomes unstable and begins to false (lie). Just back it off a notch or two.

Then dig, especially the nickel sounds. I don't use all metal unless I am in the middle of nowhere relic hunting. The multiple sounds you will encounter in all metal just drive you buggy if there is a lot of trash in the area.

The Yeller Feller has a good discrimination and the preset jewelry mode has netted me enough last year to have paid for it X 4~

Go get 'em and have a blast. Be sure and protect the electronics with a baggie or something in case of rogue waves. It wouldn't hurt to have a moisture absorbing packet inside the guts either.

You're in for a treat IF you stick with it! <><

I love my Ace 250, but I want to get wet!!! On my beach I found a few dollars in clad coins and a charm for a necklace (sadly not silver or gold), but I made the mistake of hunting in "coin mode". The gold ring that I found rang up as a penny, so I figured it was ok to run in "coin mode", but I know now to run it in "jewelry mode". Note I hunt fresh water (Lake Michigan). and I have found coins in the water and in wet sand. I guess salt water is an entirely different beast. Good luck hunting...

Which part of the beach do you guys hunt with the Ace? I spend my time trying all kinds of random areas, near the surf, between the wet and dry sand, near the exits/entrances.... and I have still found Nada. If MDing has a lot to do with luck/karma... tell me now, cause mine has been exhausted on other things.

I have tried crackbadgers advice... but still all I find is the garbage while Dig walks over with the bling in hand and a skip in his step. Is there some MDing Gods, or other false idols I need to be worshipping? If so, Send me an Icon so I can get started on the Groveling ASAP.

Jess...You need to start sacrificing goats b4 we go out like I do.....Then when you have appeased the treasure gods, you will be allowed to find the loot. Seriously...I think you are saving it up to find the big whopper! I fully expect you to come bounding up any day here with a big fat platinum crusted with stones in it...or maybe a an engagement ring. Just to be safe you may want to look around on Ebay or something for some farm animals......

...and never found much with it. I made fun of her for finding stuff like engine blocks and bumpers and barbed wire. I showed her how to use it etc, using MY machine.

Now, over a YEAR later, I borrowed her machine for some reason and to my surprise the blessed thing is not functioning right...probably from the very beginning. But she didn't know enough to know when it was not running right.

SO, do some air tests and run it through the paces with jewelry just to make sure you don't have a defective unit.

I've only seen one defective Garrett in three decades and it just happened to be my sister's. So check it out. If it ID's OK and your sensitivity is not set set too high, you should find loot where you are hunting.

Best O' luck to you.

If you hunt w/ the Excal, then you may just want to sacrifice a small furry creature just to make sure you have the attention of the gods, (with an excal you are not going to need their help) but if you hunt with an ACE250 you better slaughter a herd of cattle...(j/k the ace is quite capable too...)
Persistence persistence persistence.... and location location and location.....

Remember me telling you in the beginning to get an Excal? The ACE is not going to get it done, but it is also $250. Use it in the park and get a Sov GT or Excal 800 and you will compete with Dig. You will at least need to be hunting wetsand or shallow surf, that is where the majority of the loot will be found, savvy? I will probably get some grief over this, but that's a fact. Been there done that already. Had 3 ACE 250s and they got sold.

Argghhhhh... Yeah, I hear yah. I really want to give the Ace a chance, after all, Dig is the one who spent his hard earned cash on the purchase of my detector. Hmmm, so that makes it his detector, and me his bitch. *contemplative pause* Anyhow, I will test it again on a lower sensitivity and see if it may be the machine and not the awesome gal using it. ( But it is probably the girl!!!:bouncy:)

Thanks Gulf Hunter for the advice! And Crash, LOL, A herd of Cattle!!!! I am at the point where I just might.... screw the Milk! Where's the Beef?!

Thanks for the info Guys. Hey Freddy, have you taken your Ace out for a spin yet???? And where?
